Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day
This Apologia elementary science book will take you and your family on an exploration into the wonders of the swimming creatures made on the fifth day of Creation. You'll begin with a big splash from the whales and dolphins, then spy on seals and meet manatees before swimming with the sea turtles, snakes, and salamanders. You'll even peek in on the primeval plesiosaurus and its pals.

About the Young Explorer Series:
When we decided to offer our customers a boxed curriculum, we knew that our eclectic approach to science needed a bit of fine-tuning, so we knew we needed Young Explorer, Jeannie Fulbright's elementary science program. Not only does this in-depth curriculum, with its gorgeous, full-color pictures and captivating, God-exalting text, sparkle in comparison to the mainstream, dry-bones science program, it utilizes what we believe is the most sensible method to teaching science, the immersion approach.

While other science programs, with their yearly superficial overviews, quickly become tedious as children encounter the repetitiveness of topic matters, the Young Explorer science immersion program will allow your family to enjoy the depth and riches that genuine science can give. Most home-taught children who enjoy science are being taught with a science immersion program.

Because this program utilizes a combination of the Charlotte Mason and classical methods, you can count on each Young Explorer book to acknowledge the evidence of Creation, have easy-to-follow lessons that are self-contained, include hands-on activities, and support National Standards of Science. Recommended for ages six through twelve, but written with a fourth-grader in mind, you may find that your older children will enjoy doing the coursework on their own, while younger, less confident readers will prefer parental involvement.

Although the author encourages you to select books based on topics and not grade level, she also favors the following sequence due to the difficulty of the subject matter: Astronomy, Botany, Zoology 1: Flying Creatures, Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures, Zoology 3: Land Animals, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry and Physics.

Every hardback book comes with eye-popping, full-color pictures; recommended activities and projects; and engaging, conversational text.

Another outstanding component of Timberdoodle's 2016 Fourth-Grade Curriculum Kit!

So far my 4th grader is having a lot of fun with this science curriculum. My 1st grader was even interested so we ordered the junior journal for him. We are all enjoying how interesting and fun Zoology II is.

My kids love it! January 14, 2013
    Reviewer: Brooke
This is our first time using a formal science curriculum and this one would be hard to beat. The chapters are well organized, informative without being too in-depth for young audiences, and spark the imagination and desire to learn more. I especially appreciate that the author has taken time to round up online resources, additional children's books and videos supplemental to each chapter. I read the book with iPad in hand so we can view the videos and images available on Apologias website. I have found my kids finished the book by themselves but still enjoy having me read it to them weekly. We also purchased the note booking journal and that has been great for my boys to keep notes in while I read.

We LOVE Apologia Science!!!! July 21, 2012
    Reviewer: Mum2Six
We LOVE apologia science! This is second book in the Zoology series. We've used the flying creatures book also and loved it as well. I have children in Kindergarten through 5th grade and all of them enjoyed and benefitted from this book. Of course the 5th grader took away more details then the 5 years old, but they all enjoyed it and learned from it at their own grade levels. The one con I listed for this book has to do with the experiments. Several of the experiments did not work like we expected them too. And a few were a complete fail. If you plan to do the experiments you should do it on your own before doing it with the students, just to see if anything needs to be modified.

Great Topic, fantastically written May 31, 2012
    Reviewer: MQ
This is my student's favorite Science book. Concentrating on one element, Ocean animals did not get boring at all. They learned things I didn't know even though I grew up by the ocean. The projects are doable, fun, and educational. The tone of the book is conversational and helps the student to understand and remember. Thank you for this great resource!
