Beautifully Illustrated Read-aloud
What Your Preschooler Needs to Know is a beautifully illustrated read-aloud anthology offering your preschooler what fellow parents, educators, and distinguished developmental psychologists consider the "core of knowledge" for preschoolers.

Covers 6 Subject Areas
Presented in a read-aloud format to help your child get ready for Kindergarten, with sections for each subject, including:
  • History: This down-to-earth introduction to American history has dynamic illustrations, powerful stories, and a handful of simple projects you and your child can enjoy together.
  • Science: What Your Preschooler Needs to Know contains spot-on questions and stunning photos which will encourage your child to observe and experience the wonder of animals and the physical properties of light, air, and water.
  • Music: Children love songs, especially activity songs, so What Your Preschooler Needs to Know includes both the classics you grew up with, and a couple of new ones to boot.
  • Favorite Poems and Rhymes: Rhymes are a critical pre-reading skill. What Your Preschooler Needs to Know includes delightfully illustrated poems, limericks, tongue twisters, and "fingerplay" verses that you and your child can perform together.
  • Visual Arts: Vibrant, full-color reproductions of all sorts of art will give you an opportunity to talk about shapes, colors, different styles, and art history.
  • Beloved Stories and Fables: Read-aloud stories might be your child's favorite section, but families differ in their tastes in literature, so be sure to pre-read the stories to make sure they are aligned with your family's values.
Kindle a Love for Learning
In addition, What Your Preschooler Needs to Know contains valuable sidebars throughout the book suggesting questions to ask and games to play to deepen your preschooler's learning experience. There's also an appendix at the end of the book for additional resources. What Your Preschooler Needs to Know presents tons of opportunities to promote curiosity and kindle a love of learning in your child.

    Excellent Book November 11, 2014
    Reviewer: Meghan
I love this book it is an excellent resource book it has a little bit of everything in it. It is very well written and broken up nicely where you can hit on one thing from each section in a day and has hints for you so you can ask your child questions about each topic.

My Son's Favorite book ever June 22, 2014
    Reviewer: Sarah W.
I got this for my 3 year old and it quickly became his favorite book. He often asks for the Papa Bear Book (I must have read Goldilocks and the Three Bears to him about 30 times). It has so many wonderful options from poems (which he quickly started memorizing), songs (which mommy can't remember the tunes too), classic stories, science, history and art lessons. A wonderful resource that every parent should have for their preschooler, I only wish I had of had it sooner! I recently purchased the sequel which is just as good.

Great resource guide January 15, 2013
    Reviewer: Carrie
What Your Preschooler Needs to Know is a great book, and bottom line, I'd buy it again. It has an extensive collection of songs, stories, and poems. The story section has questions along the side of the text to initiate discussion with your child and work on pre-literacy skills. I also enjoyed the sections on history, science and art, which gave me a great starting point as to what basic content I should introduce to my 3-year old in each given topic. One thing I am surprised about is that this book did not include anything about math...but that is because I missed the sub-title which said "Read-Alouds to Get Ready for Kindergarten". What Your Preschooler Needs to Know is not a comprehensive guide of all kindergarten readiness indicators.

Great Confidence Builder January 14, 2013
    Reviewer: Texas Mom
This book has been a confidence builder in that in out normal playing and singing we probably cover most of the materials provided. He does not like reading stories from this book but prefers them as stand alone volumes but the reminders to me of the sing-song poems and dances make it a great resource on days when I'm not sure of how to fill up the time. This is not a workbook but sections for poetry/sing-song, stories (like Goldilocks) and a science section about the world around you that help a parent develop discussions or activities to complete an objective- this is not a book I use with my preschooler however and it does create work but has built confidence that we are on the right track!
