Timberdoodle's review

Those who have loved the Pathway series have begged us to find more. While it is hard to beat the sincere wholesomeness of an Amish textbook, we trust that you will find Reading to Learn equally appealing.

While the Pathway series shows life from an Amish perspective, shunning electricity and cars, the Reading to Learn series is from a Conservative Mennonite viewpoint, so nonresistance and modest behavior are two of the many sterling qualities that shine forth. Although some families will insist on using this series as a reading program, I think that they are just as valuable as age-appropriate wholesome reading material.

Be forewarned: like Pathway, Reading to Learn seems to be more advanced than your typical government school readers, so you may need to ease your beginning readers into these books. Each hardback book contains short stories with a sprinkling of poetry. Enjoy!

Reading to Learn September 15, 2015
    Reviewer: Mandy
Finally!A bookset you don't have to question what the "moral" is? After doing reading through public school, we were terrified. Some of the stories seemed like horror stories or just plain did not make sense. This book set is great material that has actual good morals to learn. I am comfortable letting my kids read through these any time they want. They love picking them up and just whizzing through. I love this set and will keep them for all my children.

    Excellent books May 8, 2014

My 7yo daughter reads these like regular books. She likes to think that she is flying through grades! The stories aren't questionable like many other books nowadays. I am peaceful with her reading them, knowing they are wholesome.

Learning to Read Series October 26, 2010
Reviewer: Misty Marr from Buckeye, AZ United States
The whole Learning to Read Series is one of the best set of readers that I have found.   They provide a wealth of wholesome reading material, stories, poems, Godly character and so much more.  These stories will give reading enjoyment for a wide age of children and adults alike.  Despite the fact that these are part of a school curriculum, these feel more like "fun reading," so they will be very enjoyed by the whole family.  The higher levels can be used for read aloud for the younger children and it is also great to have good reading right at your child level, to encourage them to read on their own, as they are learning.  These readers, grades 1-3 are the first choice of books for my almost 7 year old to read.  As a teen I devoured the whole series.

    Highly recommended! October 27, 2008
Reviewer: Hilary B. from Edgewater, MD
The Reading to Learn Readers are books that our family cherishes. We have used these not as  reading program, but simply as wholesome reading. My children are challenged by the text, yet seem to come away from these much more calm and focused on the way God calls us to live. The wording is perfect for the designated age. The stories always grip their attention and leave them thinking about the story long after it has been read. Highly recommended!
