Nothing Else Is This Important
In the flurry of finding your teen the right geometry curriculum, the perfect anatomy & physiology course, or the challenging but not overwhelming language arts program, it is easy to overlook what really matters, your child's soul. Everything else is just wood, hay, and stubble. Start this year right with a DVD that will stalk your teen's soul for months, maybe years to come.

Be Amazed at God's Spoken World
Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl is an edgy, poignant, and cerebral tour of life in this world and in the one to come. In ten brief, breathtaking video chapters, N.D. Wilson marvels not at creation, but at our Creator God, and looks at many of the ways in which people anesthetize themselves to the miracles that surround their daily lives. I've watched Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl three times so far and each time I walk away with new thoughts buzzing in my head.

Three Radical Concepts
Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl emphasizes three profound themes. First, the universal need we all have to explain the how and why of creation. Second, the manipulative tendency of philosophy to hide rather than illuminate. And finally, the idea of God as Author and the world as His novel.

Edgy and Essential
Is Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl family-friendly fare? Maybe. I would dearly love to have every family watch, discuss, think on, and discuss again these very crucial topics. The freedom Wilson gives to teaching parents when he shares his thoughts on philosophy and philosophers is alone fully worth the price of the DVD. Granted, there were a couple of words that I would not want to hear a preschooler using, but if your family is like ours, your children may have already heard those words at the last family reunion. And if your child has no clue about procreation, he will find the brief discussion on conception either intriguing or baffling, but it will be up to you to ignore or inform.

The Best Way to Use It
How should a family use Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl? The best way is to watch it in its entirety once to get an overview. Then watch one video chapter a week and use the free downloadable Notes from the Tilt-A-Whirl Study Guide to generate both formal and informal conversations around the home. The seven lessons in the guide include discussion questions, quotations from the film, scriptural references, exercises to complete with your family, practical applications, and more. (There are references to the original Notes from the Tilt-A-Whirl book, which is not necessary to use the DVD, but is available from your local Christian bookstore if you have a teen eager to know more.)

Still undecided? Read what others are saying about Notes from the Tilt-A-Whirl.

"Combining stunning visuals with an entertaining and engaging text, Wilson yanks you out of the numbing sameness of your frenetic pursuit of what quickly passes and leads you to care about and inquire into things that are transcendent. Don't watch it once. Watch it over and over again. It's just that powerful and important."
-Paul David Tripp, Professor and Executive Director of Pastoral Life and Care, Redeemer Seminary

"My friend Nate reminds me of C.S. Lewis and Jerry Seinfeld at the same time. Like Lewis, he has a white knuckle grip on philosophical themes and inquiries while at the same time using them in service to the gospel in a way that resonates with the real questions and concerns of our time. He's also Seinfeldian in the sense that he has a remarkable knack to see usually ignored details. He has a keen eye for seeing God's handiwork and finding gospel truth that many would overlook as every day, mundane things. Combine all this with a good sense of humor, remarkable creativity, humble confidence, and savvy vision and you have a trustworthy and fun guide showing you around. Highly recommended!"
-Tullian Tchividjian, Pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale

"Every time Nate Wilson opens his mouth my mind is bent a little bit, and this film is no exception. Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl throws out all assumptions and takes me on an adventure which ends with a bigger awe for God, a more mysterious world, and a thankfulness to be part of God's big story."
-Mike Anderson, The Resurgence, Mars Hill Church, Seattle

Engaging and Thought Provoking August 28, 2012
Reviewer: Pebblekeeper
We have been studying Apologetics recently, so I was excited when this DVD became available. I watched the DVD through in one afternoon, 10 short chapters. The writing and imaging pulled our attention in. I am friends with many people who do not believe in the Bible as the sole authority. Or as entirely God Breathed. Many of my friends have varied ideas of how they have sorted out the origins of the universe. This DVD is not a hard core Creation / Bible as Fact Direct Finger Pointing Video. This is a see the evidence, hear the testimonies, embrace the images, think of what is being said. The friend that I was watching with has a different idea of our end origins as well - We both believe Christ Crucified - but have different ideas of Hell Heaven and Death. This guy made us both think. He writes about the Big Bang - as moment of time when it all started - when God Spoke, when his words started the universe. I know some do not want the words Big Bang and Creation to ever be in the same sentence. In all - I think this is a great thought provoking film. I do not believe that it will pull away from any doctrine that you have established for your home through the Word. I think it would be perfect for Teens who are asking the What If questions - or for friends who ask you about creation but feel tied to their secular teachings. It will make everyone ponder. It will make you love your Creator even more. I did giggle a few times when his kids were working on homeschool products at the kitchen table at the beach, near our home, in the video. The beach that is shown is where we live! Had to stop the video and point. I recommend this video to people who want to understand creation - want to have a tool to help seeking friends - may have teen children who are wondering. Disclosure - Although I have been blessed to review products for free - I willingly purchased this product on my own, and this review is only written to help people wondering about it.
