Mind Benders
When I was about ten years old, my parents, with their six daughters ages two to eleven, spent the summer driving a Dodge van from Panama to Oregon, then over to Michigan. Cars in those days did not have media centers, and if ours had a working radio or air conditioner, it was a well-guarded secret. But what we did have were several large tote bags of puzzle books. It was on this trip that I was first introduced to this absorbing type of puzzle. Mind Benders are deductive thinking puzzles that develop vital logic, reading comprehension, and mental organization skills necessary for solving real-life problems.

Levels spiral in difficulty within grade ranges. Mind Benders Level 1 and Mind Benders Level 2 are intended for children as young as four years old. With your assistance, your child will think about each story and its clues; identify logical associations between people, places, and things; and then deduce how it all fits together. A child that can master these skills at four or five years of age will almost certainly find that the twin academic challenges of reading comprehension and mathematical story problems will be nonissues in the years to come. Includes step-by-step instructions and detailed answers.

Unexpected hit! June 13, 2014
Reviewer: Jessica S.
My son thinks he has the answers to all the world's problems- this was a fun way to help develop his legendary problem solving skills. I wasn't sure how he would respond to it, since it wouold require him to think deeper & listen to every aspect of the problem, but to our delights- he loved it!

Great start in logical deduction January 14, 2013
Reviewer: rho33dav49
My 1st grade son used this book daily until completion. It was his first introduction into this kind of logical deduction via chart-making. I loved the step-wise approach, and that my son was quickly able to grasp the ideas and concepts on his own. However, just as he got it, the problems got slightly more difficult, so he was constantly challenged. There were a few puzzles that had confusing labels. In some cases my son was asked to distinguish boys' names from girls' names (he wasn't sure), and in another, I needed to give some assistance regarding which pictures represented a girl vs a woman--the pictures are simple and only of the face, so parental assistance is needed with the younger kids. This is an excellent book for introducing the concept of chart-making logical deduction, and I highly recommend it.

A Stretch for Little Minds January 14, 2013
Reviewer: Meredith the Home Educating Mama
I've used this book with my kids when they are between 4 and 6 years old. It states PreK-K, so that's fairly accurate. If your little one isn't a reader, they'll need some help reading the simple statements at the bottom of the puzzle pages. As a longtime fan of these sorts of logic puzzles, I think this is a fun book!

We loved these mental challenges! I used these with my daughter when she was in 1st Grade. This was a good introduction to logically working through a problem. We did two each week on Fridays - my daughter loved them, and she didn't consider them real "schoolwork".
