MAC Version for Kids!

Typing Instructor for Kids MAC Version
Do you remember the fable from India in which the blind men took turns investigating an elephant's shape? One felt the tusk and thought an elephant was like a spear, while another felt the trunk and thought an elephant was like a snake. I was very much reminded of this fable when I asked two employees to review the number one best-selling typing software for children, Typing Instructor for Kids.

Terrific or Troublesome?
One saw the program as troublesome because of the occasional references to luck or wishing, the sporadic glimpses of skeletons or peering eyes, and the fact that children are asked to consult a talking stone if they need additional typing instruction. But the other reviewer saw it as an exciting, motivating method of teaching young children how to touch-type.

Multi-Level Games, Graduated Drills, and Hundreds of Activities
This latest version of the interactive fiction typing game, Typing Instructor for Kids 5.0, offers thirty-plus action-packed, multi-level game challenges; graduated drills and lesson plans; hundreds of activities, exercises, and tests; and bilingual learning in English and Spanish.

Ten Customizable Plans With or Without Games
Using proven typing techniques, children will master the keyboard while journeying with Toby and Lafitte to five imaginative lands where they learn proper typing techniques and build keyboarding skills. Just choose a typing plan, set a words-per-minute goal, and as your child explores Typer Island he will learn typing along the way. The engaging lessons and exercises teach children important typing skills, including speed and accuracy. If your children find your old typing program boring, and if you are looking for the right balance of education, entertainment, and motivation in a typing program, then consider the award-winning Typing Instructor for Kids 5.0.

Another outstanding component in the Timberdoodle Curriculum Series!

    Great program!! November 22, 2013
    Reviewer: Breanne
This typing program has been a hit at our home as well!! My 8 year old and 6 year old boys love this typing program. I am impressed by their new found typing skills. It challenges them at a perfect rate keeping them engaged and wanting to learn more and type faster. The games are very creative and not annoying or obnoxious(like Kirsten said).

Fun introductory typing program January 14, 2013
    Reviewer: Homeschool mom
I am using this typing program with my 8 yr. old and 9 yr. old boys. They really enjoy all the games and colorful graphics. Although there is a lesson on proper hand placement, I am finding that I need to sit with my boys to remind them where to keep their hands. If not, they typically resort to searching the keyboard and using just one finger or two fingers for typing. My 5 yr. old daughter asked me if she can play too, but I think she would become too easily frustrated with the timed games at her age.

Good product for the price June 2, 2012
    Reviewer: Sara
I bought this for my 6 year old Kindergartner and third grader as a fun way for them to learn proper typing on their own. They were very excited to use it. It had some fun games, but getting around the program was frustrating for them (and for me since I would ultimately have to stop other schooling to help them). The games work only with the letters you have learned (a few at a time). However, there is no "level" that must be passed before moving on to the next lesson, so my 6yo had added too many letters on her own without mastery. Also, proper fingering is taught in the lesson but not reinforced in the games, so I often found them hunting and pecking. They do like the program, and I think we will pull it out again next year. Can't beat the price!

    A Hit! September 26, 2011
Reviewer: Kirsten from Tacoma, WA United States
My 6.5 year old son asked to learn to type, so I went hunting for a kid-friendly program.  The Typing Instructor for Kids (Mac version) fits the bill perfectly.  My son LOVES this program--and so do I.  It teaches typing in a fun but NOT annoying way.  There are games, but not with obnoxious music and not to the detriment of actually learning the subject matter.  There are clear directions and goals, with feedback in the form of words-per-minute and accuracy after each lesson.  My son has to buckle down and work on it, but enjoys it.  And the price--wow.  Can't go wrong at this price!  Definitely worth it.
