Timberdoodle's review

This second book in the Telling Time sequence helps children learn how to tell time down to the minute. By using a variety of different activities to keep children engaged, this workbook helps children learn this difficult skill without feeling frustrated or anxious.

Telling time is one of the skills that reinforces how useful it is to learn number skills. Familiarize your children with the concept of telling time by using these distinctive Kumon step-by-step books. Kumon's slow, systematic approach helps children learn this difficult, but vital skill with minimal distress. This is accomplished by concentrating on the hours first, and then incrementally introducing them to half- and quarter-hours, finishing with 1 minute increments. If your child can count from one to sixty, he is ready to tell time, right down to the minute. Slow, systematic approach helps children learn this difficult, but vital skill with minimal frustration.

About Kumon:
Over 20 years ago, when our family began this delightful home school adventure, workbooks for toddlers and preschoolers were hard to find. But that was just as well because the ones that were available were inane, insipid or intolerable. (Why would we choose to prohibit watching corrupting television, then turn around and use workbooks with those same characters depicted in them?)

Workbooks are not appropriate for all young children; many are simply not ready for the fine motor skills that are necessary. Let those children continue to learn at their God-ordained pace and in a way that encourages a love of learning. But when your children are ready to move to focused learning, reach for Kumon Workbooks. The captivating illustrations are child-friendly and the scope and sequence are just what educating parents have been looking for.

Kumon centers have been helping children master fundamental skills for over 50 years. Originating in Japan, they have excelled in their primary emphasis of math and reading instruction. With the exception of a page or two of nonsense, these are outstanding books, worthy of any child's time and effort. The skills taught are essential and appropriate, and their presentation can entice even the most hesitant learner. The assignments are short; each is slightly more challenging than the last so that your child progresses at a gradual, comfortable pace.
Distinctive step-by-step book helps children learn this difficult, but vital skill.

Not as impressive as I expected from Kumon September 26, 2015
Reviewer: Melody
My 1st grader worked through this whole book and still could not tell time. I really think that it uses an incomplete approach. It basically teaches "decoding" the clock, in ten-minute chunks, and really makes the kid try to memorize 60 different minute positions on the clock. It does not at all seem to unravel the idea of minutes building into hours, and hours creeping by, and quarters and halves of hours, or minutes past and minutes to an hour. I was disappointed.

Great Teaching Tool! October 26, 2011
Reviewer: Erin Hritz from Grafton, OH United States
The Kumon Book of Telling Time has really been a great addition to our curriculum.  My 6 year old has caught on very quickly and I attribute it to the Kumon approach.  I would recommend this book to anyone teaching time to their child.  Well worth the money!

Great tool for teaching time! November 8, 2010
Reviewer: Misty Marr from Buckeye, AZ United States
The Kumon My Book of Telling Time is a great book to help your child master the art of reading a clock.  This book starts with a review of the hour hand and has some good practice.  It assumes that they have a basic idea of how a clock works.  Next, it moves onto practice of the numbers 1-60. Then is spends good bit of the book practicing the minute hand. It is pretty repetitive, and could possibly be considered boring, but I feel that is what is necessary to really learn.  Finally, it teaches the concept of "a quarter to," "a quarter past" and "half past." This workbook is more schoolish than some of the Kumon workbooks.
