Interactive Science
No one program works wonderfully for every family. Yet, until now we offered no alternative to Apologia, simply because we could not find one worthy of Timberdoodle's recommendation. Interactive Science is the perfect fit.

Notebooking in Your Textbook
Notebooking, or making a notebook of all your scientific discoveries of the year is one of the most effective ways to learn. Not only does it give your child a single place for their workbook pages, science experiment results and observations, but it also helps your child take the time to consider and write down the highlights of what they learned.

Truly Interactive Approach
Interactive Science's bright pages offer a huge variety of lesson styles and activities. Each chapter begins with questions designed to get your young scientist thinking about and predicting answers relating to this month's subject. You'll then find the information essential to the month's studies, all written to the student and laid out in a friendly, non-overwhelming fashion. Each chapter also includes vocabulary cards, worksheets, hands-on science activities, chapter reviews, problem solving activities, an Investigate It! section with a chance to put together everything learned in the chapter, and more! Complete, engaging and varied, what more could you ask for?

New For 2015
Your Homeschool Bundle comes with a one year access code that allows you to download or view the complete teacher's edition online. All the content is there without the expense of another book! You can even download it to your iPad if you like. You also have access to the complete student edition online as well as additional activities and videos.

A Note for Conservative Christians
Interactive Science is written from a secular perspective so evolution and evolutionary dating are mentioned on occasion. Unlike other texts we've reviewed, this isn't a main focus of Interactive Science. If this is otherwise the perfect program for your student, don't be discouraged by that, but do be sure to take time to discuss the issues with your child.

That Awkward Subject
Secondly, and perhaps even more importantly, Interactive Science does address that awkward subject of reproduction. Take time to skim the pertinent lesson or two and determine if your student really needs/is ready for this information. The subject is handled tastefully and teaches about body systems rather than any titillating details, yet at least in Life Science (6th-8th grade) our family would probably have skipped a lesson or two until we were older.

Another outstanding component of Timberdoodle's 2016 Third-Grade Secular Curriculum Kit!

SO much improvement this year! September 13, 2016
Reviewer: Sandra Hammer from South Haven, MI United States
Way to go Timberdoodle! This year my book came with all the online access, so now my daughter has the ability to interact with the book the way it was designed to be. She loves being able to log onto her account and see what today's activities and videos are. I enjoy that it prompts her to dig deeper into the lesson and gets her thinking about additional questions. It is nice that the online material is not required though, just extra fun for us to have! The pictures and information found in each lesson definitely do the job but I also love all the experiments the book teaches us to do, and my online teachers manual offers me all the inside information on how the experiment should have happened and offers sample answers to help guide our study. This was a huge improvement this year and made our family so happy! Science remains the favorite lesson in this house!

Overwhelming!!! November 15, 2015
Reviewer: Antonia M.
This is my first time trying out Interactive Science, and quite honestly, it overwhelms me! I really like the colorful pictures, and the content seems pretty good. I was looking for something to supplement the Apologia science that we do - something teaching scientific methods, weather, etc....just some things I'd thought would be good for my kids to learn. So, the content appears to be there. However, I'm finding myself sorting through Unit A, Lesson 1, Chapter 1, now go online (I think?), now do an experiment online, read the teacher's edition for the next part, fill in the blanks on one page....then finish on the next page in one column....wait, am I still in chapter 1? Or was it lesson 1, unit A? There just seems to be such an overload of information and colorful pictures, that I really have a hard time sorting it all out!! I really prefer lessons with a simple theme, with a simple activity, or a simple workbook page. I've really hesitated to "dig into" these books with my kids, because I just don't know where or how to start. Maybe that's just me, other people might have a clearer focus and grasp of science, and be able to sift through all the material better than I. But it's a little bit to all over the place for me. TD Reply: Thank you so much for the feedback, Antonia! If it's any help to you, our family would likely not have implemented any of the bells and whistles with this program. Instead we'd have just worked our way through the workbook alone and been very happy with what it covered. There are a lot of additional resources available now in the online component, but we agree that they are not very intuitive to use, and we think many families will not find them absolutely essential. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us - we truly appreciate that!-The Timberdoodle Team

Very frustrating! October 21, 2015
Reviewer: Heather H.
We purchased this with high hopes, but were the frustrating aspects about this curriculum:1) The online access was only for the teacher, which meant my daughter could not use the "interactive" part of the curriculum. The teacher access did have answers and even some extra teaching hints but not much more.2) There were many suggested experiments - A LOT, but it was very hard to find the different components for these experiments that we kept having to skip them which made the curriculum dry and made science "un-fun" for my daughter. I understand that this curriculum was ultimately created for a public school setting, so the supplies/kits for experiments were meant to be bought for whole classes and are not readily available for just one person or one family, but I did find this very frustrating.3) With no experiments and no "interactive" online access, it made for basically just reading a textbook, answering some questions which felt a lot to me like high-school or college science courses, not 3rd grade! We ended up ditching this and going back to our old stand-by science curriculum and will be checking out something new that is all-inclusive. TD Reply: Heather, thanks so much for your review! We truly appreciate getting feedback on how the products we carry are working “in the field” for homeschooling families. If it's any help, our counsel is that our family would likely not have implemented any of the bells and whistles with this program. Instead we'd have just worked our way through just the workbook, as we consider it to cover an amount and depth of material that is more than adequate. There are a lot of additional resources available now in the online component, but it’s true that they are not very intuitive to use, and we think many families will not find them absolutely essential.Again, thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us and with our customers, we appreciate it!-The Timberdoodle Team
