The availability of quality products for home educators has really improved in recent years, particularly those products geared for teens. Integrated Physics & Chemistry is one program that I regret our older children did not have the opportunity to use. It would have been perfect for them because it introduces both physics and chemistry in a way that they would not have found intimidating. This entry-level, applied course gives teens a thorough grounding in basic chemistry and physics. Science concepts are repeated in different ways throughout the sections, and content-rich illustrations, numerous charts, graphs, and data tables assist them in grasping the subject matter. This method is highly engaging and motivates them to learn about the application of physics and chemistry to daily life.

180 Lessons
Created to meet the needs of Texas science teachers and students, IPC consists of twelve chapters of text and twelve companion student activity books, for 180 lessons. While deliberately avoiding complex mathematical equations, this self-paced, high-school-level science course introduces students to the people, places, and principles of physics and chemistry. Written by internationally respected scientist/author, John Hudson Tiner, IPC effectively draws teens by using a story approach to teaching these complicated topics.

Easy-to-understand science curriculum
Carefully selected narratives profile positive role models, real people of noble character, while offering bite-sized, easily-digestible science information. IPC structures every lesson in a sequential order, with companion activity exercises, allowing your child to advance as rapidly as desired or as slowly as needed. Quizzes and tests include questions and problems patterned like those that appear on state academic assessment exams, so actual assessment questions are familiar and less threatening. IPC textbooks are aligned specifically with the state standards of Texas but meet or exceed the standards of most states.

One oddity about this program that you may or may not like is that each chapter includes a life principle, a quote, that the publisher hopes will build high character. While the founder is Baptist, very few of the principles are Biblical, leaving one to wonder why they are even there. They do make for interesting discussions, but I hope that your teens are gathering their life principles from a greater Source than this!

Another outstanding component of Timberdoodle's 2016 Tenth-Grade Curriculum Kit!

Great curriculum but you need to supplement lab... October 24, 2013
    Reviewer: JOANNA M.
I am using this for my High School Jr. student. We are doing the Chem Units this year, with the Physics portion next year. The material is very well written with practical applications included in the lessons. My only suggestion to PACworks would be to include a booklet for suggested lab activities using household items to facilitate hands-on learning. I have looked up supplemental lab kits online from other companies, which cost between $150-$250. I really don't want to spend the extra money, so I have made a trip to my local library and checked out Youth Chem books for science fairs and kitchen chemistry. PAC also offers other subjects in addition to science. I just got the English 1 for high school, which focuses on the nuts & bolts of grammar. It looks like the perfect fit for my family !

    ...I thought I understood before. WOW!! June 4, 2012

I love the Integrated Physics and Chemistry through Paradym Accelerated Curriculum. I have been reading some about physics and chemistry for the 25 years as I have been homeschooling. Some of the stuff made sense to me and some other kind of made sense. Having taught my 15 and 17 year old the first 6 chapters of this curriculum has shed so much light on things I thought I understood before. WOW!! Amazing info. It brings God's awesomeness to light more fully. I highly recommend this curriculum and feel homeschool magazines and catalogs should advertize it more. The material may be less expensive if many more bought it, and students would gain so much with their investment of time in studying these two difficult-to-understand subjects. Thank you.

    different... February 15, 2011
Reviewer: Rebecca K from Federal Way, WA United States
This science curriculum is like no other I've experienced.  We ended up buying this after we gave up on doing lab chemistry at home (7 children, including twin babies, not so much!)  This curriculum is in the form of 12 softcover text books and 12 softcover workbooks and then a teachers' resource pack.   While i love the content, and the different mindset toward science, the booklets are SO hard to keep track of! Especially for a disorganized family.  On the flip side, if you lose one you don't lose the whole curricula.  Also they don't have the durability of a regular hardcover science book, but again, don't need to be as durable.  I'd like to see this be in the form of one hardcover book and then the seperate workbooks.  Also the price is HIGH. When you consider it IS two years of science, that's understandable, but it is a bit pricey. Overall i am happy with it, but it does have these few distinct pitfalls.

    Integrated Physics & Chemistry September 29, 2010

After years of struggling with other chemistry curriculums with my boys, I tried  the Integrated Physics and Chemistry  program with my now graduated daughter.   She loved it !!!! For the first time she enjoyed science.   I am currently using it with my second daughter and she has told her friends about this  and actually enjoys it.   It is priceless to hear your child actually talk about her curriculum  in an excited manner.  What a blessing it is to have your child understand what they are reading the first time through.  I too, am enjoying learning again with her.

    Practical real-life applications August 23, 2010
    Reviewer: Beth from Roanoke, IN
We tried two other well-known chemistry curriculums that are great programs for science and math oriented students. My daughter is not strong in these areas and was doing very poorly, but I didn't want to give up on her having some understanding of the building blocks of life and how things work. Integrated Science and Chemistry consists of relatively short, self-paced lessons with a reading text and workbook that 'put the cookies on a little lower shelf' for students that don't intend on pursuing a career in a science field. My daughter loves the historical background and the practical, real-life applications the author uses. Most important, she is successfully learning the concepts and principles of chemistry and physics. This curriculum may not be enough for the college-bound in nursing, engineering, etc., but it is just right for someone who needs a lighter on math, heavier on concepts, approach to chemistry and physics. The lessons are easy to pace and correct as daily work. My daughter is able to work independently with little to no help from me, and she is getting A's on quizzes instead of D's and F's. Previous curriculums were taking lots of my time reading with her and explaining, and she still wasn't getting it. This curriculum might even be a good stepping stone for a younger, science--oriented student, before they try to tackle a more intense curriculum like Apologia or Bob Jones.
