Timberdoodle's review

Those who have loved the Pathway series have begged us to find more. While it is hard to beat the sincere wholesomeness of an Amish textbook, we trust that you will find Reading to Learn equally appealing.

While the Pathway series shows life from an Amish perspective, shunning electricity and cars, the Reading to Learn series is from a Conservative Mennonite viewpoint, so nonresistance and modest behavior are two of the many sterling qualities that shine forth. Although some families will insist on using this series as a reading program, I think that they are just as valuable as age-appropriate wholesome reading material.

Be forewarned: like Pathway, Reading to Learn seems to be more advanced than your typical government school readers, so you may need to ease your beginning readers into these books. Each hardback book contains short stories with a sprinkling of poetry. Enjoy!

    "Wonder"ful Reader! October 26, 2011
Reviewer: Erin Hritz from Grafton, OH United States
"I Wonder" is a great compliment to our school year.  The stories and poems throughout are wholesome.  There is no concern of what your child is reading here! I would highly recommend this book and I plan on buying the following books as we get there.

Great wholesome stories. October 25, 2011
Reviewer: Jolin Housewright from Frisco, TX United States
Great stories, all a good length (challenging, but not too long.)  The stories are so refreshing!

If you're wondering about reading level, my son started it at about a mid-1st grade reading level, and its a little difficult for him.  Hope that helps someone!

Sweet, wholesome stories October 3, 2011
Reviewer: Angie Wiggins from Indianapolis, IN United States
Although we enjoy many easy readers at our house, this is a favorite.  I love that every story teachers my daughter about Scripture, right behavior and choices that please the Lord.  Often, our reading time spurs a great discussion based on what lesson is demonstrated in the story.  Even though the stories are valuable tools for teaching about Godliness, they are also just good stories.   I never have to worry about pre-reading these stories for offensive or scary content.  I plan to use this high-quality reader with all of my children.

    I Wonder is wonderful September 27, 2011
Reviewer: Michelle Foster from Dalhart, TX United States
I highly recommend this primer for 6 year olds.  I Wonder is complex and rich, composed of both poetry and enchanting stories.   Each story is realistic and focused on a child's interests.  For example, there are stories of being afraid of thunder, relationships with pets and siblings, charity, and so forth.  We have a few primers, but this is my son's favorite.

My 6 year old son chooses a story from it over his library books often.  There are many references to the Bible and behaving in a Christian-like manner, which positively influences my son.   For example, one story is about a child's family giving to missionaries.

Overall, I highly recommend this book.  My only complaint is that it is not longer.  However,  they are affordable and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Wonderful Christian Reader October 26, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from United States
I Wonder is an absolutely delightful reader!  Each story is wholesome, interesting and reinforces values we are working on.  My son was so happy to move to this reader because it is tremendously more interesting than the readers he had previously read.  I like that each story has study words in bold print and that there is also a list of these words at the end of the book.  For this age, I have my son copy the list as copywork and then give me a verbal definition.  I choose some of the words for him to copy into sentences.  I really like the sweet poems that are sprinkled throughout the book.  I feel that the Reading to Learn series is a great value for the price.  The books are high quality and durable, but more importantly, the contents are God-glorifying and virtuous.  I highly recommend the whole set!
