Daily 6-Trait Writing
Help your child develop writing skills using daily lessons that fit into every language arts program. Are you familiar with trait writing? Trait-based writing is an impressive method educators have developed to determine if a child's writing is skilled or not.

The six traits or characteristics that shape quality writing are content; organization; word choice; sentence fluency; voice; and conventions, which include grammar, spelling, and mechanics. It may sound ominous, but Daily 6-Trait Writing has made it effortless.

With 125 dynamic writing lessons, Daily 6-Trait Writing will provide your child practice and instruction concerning all the skills essential to becoming a competent writer. Research proves that a solid understanding of the six traits of writing improves a child's ability to write successfully, and just fifteen minutes or less a day is all it will take. Daily 6-Trait Writing is correlated to state standards for educators, with a dash of fun for our apprentice writers.

A must for your language arts curriculum May 31, 2012
Reviewer: Christine
We will continue to buy Daily 6-Trait Writing books! Our daughter is 8 and she just tested 7th and 8th grade in her language arts tests. We know it is due to this curriculum and the Language Lessons books by Sandi Queen that Timberdoodle offers. We like that every week the Daily 6-Trait has a day of free writing that builds on the concepts that are taught all week long. We are able to see each week's trait with her own personal touch. Great curriculum!

Review by Peace Love and Rainbows December 23, 2011
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Timberdoodle's Blogger Review Team
My oldest a 4th grader uses this for her writing in school so this is perfect to keep those skills going in the summer, and work on skills she needs some more practice with.

Give your fifth-graders the fun and focused writing practice they need to become to become strong and successful writers. The 125 engaging, 10- to 15-minute lessons support any writing program.

What I love about this workbook: I love that they lessons are short and to the point. They are fun and engaging so your child doesn't mind doing a 15 minute lesson after school or on the weekends or summer. I love that they have a short lesson plan for us mom's to do with our kids to help them before they start the worksheet. What I really love is that it builds up the skills each day and through out the whole workbook.

Daily 6 Trait Writing is a whole and complete writing program that will help your kids become better writers.

I'm glad we have this book and will work through the whole book over the summer so day 1 of 5th grade she will be 100% ready and a wonderful writer!

Daily 6-Trait Writing by Delightful Learning December 16, 2011
Reviewer: Michelle from Timberdoodle's Blogger Review Team
Daily Six-Trait Writing focuses on 6 writing traits:
Word Choice
Sentence Fluency
Conventions (grammar, spelling and mechanics)
These are characteristics that are said to shape quality writing. The books are divided into 5 units, one for each of the first 5 traits. Each week the concepts build on the previous one and a new convention (the 6th trait) is presented each week. It's neat that the convention is taught in the context of what they are writing.

Best of all, the lessons are easy enough to do (even for reluctant writers) and only take 10-15 minutes a day.  Each book (5th and 6th) is similar in content but geared towards each one's respective grade level and I definitely plan on having Dylan use the 6th grade book after he completes the 5th grade book.

Regardless of whichever writing curriculum I decide to go with next year, Daily 6-Traits will make the transition much smoother!

A solution for boys that hate writing February 19, 2010
Reviewer: Kimberly from Honolulu HI
This series has offered me a solution for boys that hate writing. It covers fundamental writing skills in a manner that has been manageable for my boys. Four days a week, there is a practice worksheet that requires relatively small amounts of writing. For the fifth day's assignment, the child is asked to bring together the work done earlier in the week. Much of the writing will have already been accomplished, and will simply need to be added to and polished a bit. This series is a good way to develop strong writing skills in the elementary/early middle school years. I expect to be able to smoothly transition into a more advanced writing program when the time comes.
