As a ten-year old Charles not only taught himself to drive a car, but also spent hours tinkering on car engines. The father of modern aviation Charles Lindbergh's exploits as a pilot were vast and varied. His most notable adventure was being the first man to fly non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean. But his fame did not come without a price. In 1931 his son was kidnapped and murdered and the nation mourned with him.
