Timberdoodle's review
Encourage your teen to think critically and biblically about literature with the rigorous American Literature curriculum. Entirely student-led, your teen is expected to pre-read the assigned books, available at local libraries or online as a free download, before tackling the assignments. This can either be done by reading through the summer or by aggressively reading during the school year. Daily lessons include an introduction to the work and author, as well as an evangelical perspective on each authorís worldview, essay instructions, assigned readings, and tests. Some short stories and poems are included in-text, while other books must be obtained separately.

Arranged chronologically, multiple genres of literature including classical works, spiritual literature, poems, and church history are studied. American Literature will certainly stretch your teenís critical thinking skills as he is asked to put his own thoughts to original content. The textbook contains 34 chapters with five lessons per chapter. The Teacher Guide is three-hole punched with loose leaf papers that will need a binder and includes Answer Keys, Student Objectives, Daily Concept Builders, and the Weekly Essay and Test. The American Literature curriculum will certainly prepare any teen for demanding college coursework.

The literary content covered includes works by: William Bradford, Edgar Allan Poe, Frederick Douglass, Stephen Crane, John Steinbeck, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Emily Dickinson, and more handpicked selections from the best in American literature.
