Active Baby, Healthy Brain: 135 Fun Exercises and Activities to Maximize Your Child's Brain Development from Birth Through Age 5 1/2

Babies crave more than a meal and a cuddle. They are eager, voracious learners and many new parents are just as enthusiastic to start homeschooling their baby, but don't know where to start.

A Delightfully Practical Handbook
Active Baby, Healthy Brain is the most practical handbook for all parents enthralled with every aspect of their baby's intellectual and physical development. It is simple and to the point, with ideas that are quick and easy to implement.

135 Exercises, Activities and Massages
Each activity is presented with detailed, step-by-step instructions, and the appealing illustrations help to make everything crystal-clear. And while the overall tone is one of having fun with your baby -- and you will -- the author makes sure you understand the crucial connections between the activities and the development of your baby's body and brain. You'll also learn how to incorporate toys, music, and games in your baby's day.

10 Minutes A Day
Active Baby, Healthy Brain is divided into eight specific, age-appropriate sections ranging from newborn to age five-and-a-half. Busy parents will cheer when they hear that no single activity takes more than two minutes, and all that's required is ten minutes a day. How easy is that?

Good ideas with picture illustrations August 9, 2013
    Reviewer: DaNae
I bought this book after the birth of my 3rd child to get new ideas to play with my little girl. And boy did this book deliver! I'm glad that they included drawings of the activities. My daughter and I have had a blast doing the activities together. My older sons also like getting involved. I wish that I had bought this book earlier.

Short and fun activities December 19, 2012
    Reviewer: Rellybob
My daughter brings me this book asking to do 'games'. She loves doing the dancing and hopping exercises that they suggest. What I like about this book is that it's very easy to understand, the activities are short and meaningful, and many of them can be worked into daily play.

Perfect Gift for Busy Dads! June 2, 2012
    Reviewer: Rhonda
The activities in this book can be done in about 5-15 minutes, which makes them perfect for dads who need a way to relax and bond with their babies and small children after a long day at work. Of course, it can be used by busy moms, too. :) There are activities for developing children's academic and physical potential, all of which are fun and not stressful for parent or child. This book is well done and a great addition to any parents' shelf.

    Wonderful Book! June 1, 2012
    Reviewer: Coffee Sipper
I bought this book over a year ago to use with my two toddlers. It is an excellent book to use from birth to 5 years. It describes the various kinds of brain, motor skills, and muscle development that is vital for small children, and has hundreds of ideas for helping parents or caregivers to cultivate various kinds of development, as appropriate to age. Many forms of development happen naturally with kids, such as learning to run; this book gives ideas to help with the development process. I have found that as an adult, a lot of the activities that help children with brain development come so naturally to me that I can easily overlook that a child might need some focused attention on a given area; this book is helpful for such ideas. I have recommended this book to others, and have given it as a gift.

Review by Spell Outloud January 9, 2012
Reviewer: Maureen from Timberdoodle's Blogger Review Team
I was pleasantly surprised to find that this book is a reference book of ideas. This made it easy to read and easy to fit into my busy schedule. One thing I learned was how important movement is in the development of pathways in a young child’s brain. I knew movement was important, but this book opened up my eyes to many more movement possibilities. It also explained why and gave clear examples of how to do the activity with my child.

I was very interested in learning more about vestibular activities and cross-pattern movement as I never would have come up with the idea to do those activities with my child on my own.

The other aspect I liked about this book is that it included activities for toddlers too. Each activity is listed on its own page and has clear examples and instructions for implementing the game or exercise. Most of the activities take very little prep and time to do.

In fact, I was able to use activities in this book for  three of my children--- ages 7 months to 4 years old.  I love it when I can use something for more than one kid or when it is useful for a long period of time. The book  is full of ideas for babies through 5.5 years old.
