Timberdoodle's review

Finally, a learning manipulative that is truly portable! Your children can use Wrap-Ups in the car, at the beach, at the doctor's office, or even during a home-school meeting; the possibilities are endless! Because of the portability of Wrap-Ups, they can be practiced anywhere. Wrap-Ups are excellent for drill-work. Challenge your children to complete a board in less than a minute before they start the next board.

Each set of Wrap-Ups contains ten self-correcting, joined-at-the-top boards (about 1 ¹/₂” x 5”), with a colorful, attached string. The string wraps around from the problem on the left to the answer on the right. If the answers are correct, the string will cover the lines on the back of the board.

This is a wonderful tool for visual and kinesthetic children, and if you encourage them to say the problems aloud, it is equally marvelous for the auditory child. Because it is self-correcting, your children will have immediate feedback for checking accuracy (plus, it takes you out of the picture as the bearer of “bad news”).

Another outstanding component of Timberdoodle's 2016 First-Grade Curriculum Kit!

  • The set stays together with a rivet at the top.
  • A single string, already attached, makes them easy to use and organize.
  • Students wrap the string from the problem on the left to the answer on the right, and then turn the Wrap-Ups over to see if they got it right.
  • Use a stopwatch to measure improvement and to see how fast they can really go.

  • Keys: 10, riveted together
    Drill Problems: 120

    Wrap-Ups Addition January 18, 2017
Reviewer: Justin, who likes math, age 8 from the Cayman Islands
It's an easy way to do your addition drills. It travels well. Each board has a different number you add, and it's from 1-10. I like these better than flash cards.

I like wrapping it but don't like adding. (Just not a fan of math. -Mom)

    Better than I thought! October 6, 2015
    Reviewer: Catherine E.
These are great for practicing basic math skills. They are durable and have really held the kids interest longer than I expected. We just recently were on vacation and these were great for quiet time in the car and hotels for our 5 and 4 year olds (even the 2 year old took a turn). I would definitely consider buying some of the other wrap-ups available.

Tidier than flash cards September 8, 2015
    Reviewer: Kelly O.
I'm a big fan of these. Before we switched from traditional school to homeschool I practiced endless flash cards with my oldest son. These arrived in his younger brother's school materials this year and my older son was excited to review his addition and subtraction just so he could use these. They're fun, fairly easy to use, and a whole lot easier to keep together than a stack of flash cards. One drawback would be if you have a child with a strong tendency toward rote memorization. Unlike flash cards, you can't mix up the order of these addition problems to make sure they're actually remembering the sum and not just the order the answers go in. And like some other reviews have mentioned, while this is a huge, easy to use hit with my eight year old (who doesn't actually need them) my six year old gets frustrated about keeping the string taut while he's working it around the key. And probably most kids are total angels and wouldn't try to be tricky like my 6 year old but while I wasn't looking he flipped it over and "solved" the problems with the answer key. As long as they don't figure that out, they can practice addition quite independently.

Not a hit for us August 27, 2015
    Reviewer: Shannon R.
I thought these would be a wonderful drill for my six-year old son to help work on cementing addition facts. They certainly get promising reviews and he is generally a hands-on learner. Unfortunately, he has no interest in them at all. We will have to stick to flash cards for our addition facts memorization and drills.
