Timberdoodle's review Learn more

As preschoolers our children thrived on short bursts of structured learning, and eagerly looked forward to each session. But it can be difficult to find appropriate tools for teaching toddlers and preschoolers. Wedgits is one of those rare finds. A brightly colored, multi-dimensional building set, Wedgits pieces fit perfectly together without interlocking help. Most children are immediately drawn to the sturdy plastic pieces and eagerly explore the various stacking, nesting and balancing patterns. With your assistance, they will see the relationships between horizontal and vertical construction. And when they run out of their own designs, present the 10 examples pictured in the enclosed booklet. These puzzles will challenge your children's dexterity as well as their creative thinking skills. There is an amazing amount of spatial and geometric learning to be discovered with the use of Wedgits. This special Wedgits set, with slightly larger pieces for little hands, is designed especially for 2 - and 3-year-olds. But Wedgits universal appeal explains why our teenagers have spent a fair bit of time fooling around with them.

Timberdoodle Autism Center Review:
When initially working with Krissy, Wedgits were used for work on imitation skills and following instructions. Hope would pick up a Wedgit piece and place in front of herself, instructing Krissy to do the same. "Get red." When Krissy sat there blankly, Hope would take her hand and assist her in the task, rewarding her as soon as she did it. Hope would then pick another color, and add it to her tower, prompting Krissy to do the same. "Now get yellow." As Krissy progressed, Hope used hand-over-hand teaching less and less, and Krissy began to understand and follow the verbal directions alone. Eventually, when Krissy was finally able to follow the verbal directions consistently, Hope began to use one of the design cards. She would point to the first component of a simple tower, and instruct Krissy to, "Get red." Then blue, yellow, green, etc. until the design was completed. As Krissy caught on, Hope worked at giving fewer and fewer directions until Krissy was able to build entire towers by herself. Eventually we were able to hand Krissy 3 design cards and she would assemble each independently. This progress took place over the course of about a month, and the process helped her to grasp a number of concepts such as following simple directions, understanding the assembling of parts to make a whole, and seeing the relationship between a 2-D card and a 3-D block. We pulled out the Wedgits again when we were working on language skills, particularly prepositions and adverbs. Giving Krissy a very simple card, and keeping the blocks for ourselves, we would prompt her to tell us how to build the tower. We started slowly, and she would tell us "Green." "Yellow." "White." but soon made it more difficult by deliberately placing the piece incorrectly, for instance placing the yellow piece on the table, instead of on top of the tower. "No! Yellow on blue." Once she had mastered that level, we made it more difficult again. She had to specify whether the piece was to go on top of the existing piece, or not. Were we supposed to use a big green piece or a little green piece? Not only did this give us a way to work on her language skills, but it also addressed her problem-solving abilities, as she had to figure out how to correct purposeful errors. Because her reward did not come until the tower matched the card, she was motivated for us to assemble it correctly. Other skills which can be addressed with Wedgits include fine-motor skills, sequencing, matching of identical objects, matching cards to objects, colors, sizes, serration, (arranging items systematically; for instance largest to smallest) spatial skills and so much more.

Great for our children! February 26, 2009
Reviewer: catherine m from Dalton, OH United States
We have 3 boys, ages 2, 3, and 5. We LOVE Wedgits. The 2 year old feels like a "big guy" when he creates impressive towers like his brothers. His brothers are challenged to follow the instructional pictures (and the card set we also purchased). We bought 2 sets so we'd have enough to share! The colors are bright and true; the texture of the plastic is pleasing. Wedgits are WONDERFUL!

We love this product so much we give it as gifts!! November 5, 2008
Reviewer: Cynthia C. from St. Mary's County, MD
My children love Wedgits! The age range we've used it with 18mos-12years. I have enjoyed watching my children and their friends building for hours. Wedgits are so cool to work with, everyone succeeds while building, and the possibilities are endless. We love this product so much we give it as gifts. The product is sturdy and made to last, the starter kits are a good size, and you can easily buy additional sets for expansion.

I guarantee you will soon want more November 5, 2008
Reviewer: Cheryl B. from Enumclaw, WA
These are the greatest toys!  Whenever they are out at our house, people (children and adults) are drawn to them as if to a magnet.  My family never gets tired of finding new things to build.  Don't just buy one set.  I guarantee you will soon want more.  (I had to place a second emergency order!)

Invaluable for stimulating creativity!! November 5, 2008
Reviewer: Susanne S. from Murrieta, CA
What an absolutely wonderful toy!  When our son was three we would build the Wedgit constructions with him.  He is now six and sits down with the cards and can build every model.  He loves them so much he has made numerous, creative models on his own.  This is invaluable for stimulating his creativity and various skills, and because he can build so many exciting constructions on his own it allows me to focus on my other homeschool students' needs while my youngest is creatively engaged!

I wished I known about them sooner. November 4, 2008
Reviewer: AnnaMarie H. from Royston, GA
I can't think of a downside to the wedgits.  We got them for boys 5 and 8 at the time and they still play with them at ages 7 and 10.  I wished I known about them sooner.
