Story of the World Series are great! |

Story of the World Series are great! My kids love them because they tell, well, stories. It's a great way to teach kids history in a 'Charlotte Mason' kind of way. The only thing I didn't like about this book is it seemed to kind of skip around a bit. Like one day we'd be reading about Egypt, then the next day we'd read about China, then back to Egypt the next day. That was a little different, but other than that....it's a great history book!

If you want to teach history from a Christian perspective, this book is NOT for you. It starts out telling the first people were nomads and that they evolved into farmers. This is not Biblical teaching as the Bible tells us that the first man ever born was a farmer. Bauer also teaches that men spread out over the earth because they were nomads. There is no mention of God dispersing men at the tower of Babel by confusing their language. This book also shares ancient stories that mimic Bible stories and places them before the Bible story potentially leaving one wondering if the Bible was plagiarized. The author explains the exodus as a sign that Egypt was growing weak and gives no glory to God for their escape. This book has the potential to cast doubts and leave confusion about ones faith in many areas, making it a poor choice for someone who is a Christian.

The Story of the World |

"History is my favorite," proclaimed my 7 year old last week. Two of my children are using The Story of the World I this year, yet the other children manage to gravitate to the living room with their penmanship or worksheets so that they can hear the stories, too. The Activity Book is a great asset in providing review questions and numerous activities to choose from. Studying history was never this exciting for me when I was in school. My children would work in this book all day if allowed to.

Our children really enjoy listening to these history lessons. They are short, but informative. It is perfect for our K and 1st graders.

Just one more chapter, please! |

These volumes have been a pleasure to read for both student and parent. Not belabored with lots of dates, the information is presented much as a story (thus the title) and keeps the reader's attention. In fact, we've actually had our children ask for "just one more chapter, please!" Rather than following the history of a people from start to finish or present day, the information is presented by time period so that the reader has a sense of which events were happening concurrently and how they may have influenced each other.
