Science Your Children Will Eat Up
A significant part of your life goes toward preparing meals for your family, but do you have any idea of the science behind the food you serve? Why does bread rise, how do sauces thicken, and what is baking soda? Every time you prepare a meal you are relying on chemistry, biology, and nutritional science. The Science Chef explores each of these tasty mysteries in a manner your children will eat up!

What Makes Popcorn Pop?
Divided into three parts, The Science Chef first investigates questions like why onions make you cry and what makes popcorn pop? Next, The Science Chef invites your child to make food from scratch, such as cottage cheese or rich caramel pudding. Finally, The Science Chef looks at science in the local grocery store, narrowing in on themes such as fiber, fat, or sugar.

100 Experiments and Recipes
Each chapter begins with facts about the topic, followed by a brief experiment to illustrate the concept and recipes graded by difficulty. All 100 experiments and recipes require only common ingredients and standard kitchen utensils. With The Science Chef your whole family will not only learn basic science by performing fun, easy-to-do cooking projects, but will also gain essential culinary information and skills.

Travel the World with the Science of Food
Delve into the scientific secrets of food as your family investigates the culinary traditions of 14 countries, from our neighbors, Canada and Mexico, to the exotic Morocco and the intriguing Israel. Each chapter in The Science Chef Travels Around the World contains several facts about the country presented, an experiment related to a basic food ingredient typical of that country, and recipes for a complete meal.

Whet Your Child’s Hunger for Science
The more than 60 simple-to-do food experiments and recipes will whet your child’s hunger for science as he explores the specific gravity of potatoes, the viscosity of honey, and the hydrogenation of peanut butter. After each experiment, The Science Chef Travels Around the World will encourage your child to plunge into the culture by recreating traditional recipes that capture the essence of that country. Imagine how delicious your home will smell as your child whips up bowls of West African Peanut Soup, plates of Mexican Cornbread, and Dessert Crepes with Raspberry Sauce from France.

Kid-tested Experiments and Recipes
All of The Science Chef Travels Around the World’s experiments and recipes are kid-tested and require only familiar ingredients. Add some delicious zing to your geography lesson plans with The Science Chef Travels Around the World.

The Science Chef set of books are well laid out and easy to read. They have cute illustrations throughout the book that are fun, but do not distract from the content of the books. The included recipes all appear to have very common, easy to find or already have on hand ingredients. The Science Chef has a lot of interesting and helpful information mixed within it and some of the recipes include an experiment, complete with they "why" of the experiment. My personal preference is to allow my children to work through the scientific process and see if they can determine the why, or how, of the experiment, but I do appreciate having an explanation of the experiment clearly stated for me in case it is needed. In The Science Chef Travels Around the World the ingredients still appear to be relatively easy to find and there are still the same great experiments throughout the book, as well as some wonderful information about each country. The information about each country includes food related facts and information, as well as information regarding the country's "food culture". These are interesting facts that may not be readily known or found out about various countries. Whether you are studying countries of the world, looking for some fun, practical science experiments or enjoy learning while you are cooking, I hope you will enjoy The Science Chef books as much as our family does!
