Timberdoodle's review

If you've been searching for an easy to use French program that anyone can use, whether they have any french background or not, then your search is over!

About the Easy... series:
I am a foreign language nut. Not that I speak one with any measure of fluency, but I have always loved the challenge of learning what little I could. All those years of dabbling in Spanish, French, German, Russian, and Farsi gave me the bug and the boldness to think that I could acquaint my own children with other languages. And so I have, starting with Chinese when they were quite young, and moving on to Spanish and French.

Had The Easy French (Le Français Facile) or The Easy Spanish (¡El Espanol Facil!) been available when our children were younger, they would have been a natural for us, for they not only have many of the features I was looking for as a mom, but many that appeal to young children as well.

Parents, particularly those with no French or Spanish background, will be relieved to learn that The Easy French and The Easy Spanish use phonetic, incremental, conversational language and high frequency words. In fact, one of their biggest strengths is that they are based on an explicit phonics model. The sounds of the language are all clearly defined, with the language rules for spelling and grammar being introduced as needed.

The professionally-rendered CD-ROMs contain not only the audio portions of the program, but also printable activity sheets so that you do not need to purchase additional activity books.

The lessons are clearly laid out, with weekly and quarterly lessons. Each will take about three years to complete. The first year consists of 36 weeks of daily audio exercises. In the second and third years, lessons are scheduled bi-weekly.

This series is one of a very few foreign language programs that is decidedly Christian, meaning that not only will the stories and songs be wholesome, but there is an emphasis on learning Scripture in French or Spanish. Children will enjoy the songs, games, coloring pages, and especially the stories. Parents too will find the narratives captivating as foreign words are woven into the fabric of each story.

Because the stories are in English with either French or Spanish words intermixed, you will find that this is a natural way to learn the languages. Each program includes an approximately 400-page manual and two CD-ROMs. We recommend either of these programs for children in first through sixth grade.

At this point I couldn't recommend it to anyone. October 27, 2008
Reviewer: Cindy F. from Tulsa, OK
We are currently using Easy French and while there are some things I like about it, like introducing French into and English coversation and vise versa, since I have lived in the Paris area, the Canadian accents and slang are very bothersome for me. Her web site says that it is true french but I see a strong Canadian influence. To me there is a lot of busy work that I just skip. The lay out to me is difficult to work with. I would like all the student text in one areas and teacher materials separate. I think she covers quite a bit of material over the course but as we are not finished I can not comment on that. I like the ideas of teaching with phonetics but to me it is not very systematic. I am using a lot of other methods in teaching my daughter French but we will continue to use it and see how it goes. At this point I couldn't recommend it to anyone, I would have returned it but I had removed the phonegram cards so I couldn't.
