The Adventures of Tintin: Volume 1

This repackaged hardcover volume contains 3 classic Tintin stories: Tintin in America, Cigars of the Pharaoh, and The Blue Lotus.

About the Tintin Series:
The most revered graphic novel series in the homeschool community is the venerated Tintin series. Countless mothers have told us that their son's pivotal point in reading came when he was introduced to Tintin.

One of the Most Popular Graphic Novel Series of All Time
Originally a series of comic strips created by Belgian artist Hergé, The Adventures of Tintin first appeared in a children's supplement to a Belgian newspaper in 1929. The success of the series saw the strips collected into a succession of books, which are still hugely popular eighty years later. In fact, Tintin is one of the most popular graphic novel series of all time, with translations published in over 50 languages and more than 200 million copies of the books sold to date.

Wide Variety of Genres
The hero of the series is Tintin, a young Belgian investigative reporter who travels the world in search of the next notable event. One of the most astonishing features of the Tintin series is how it so effortlessly includes a wide variety of genres: brash adventures along with mysteries, political thrillers, and science fiction. Some Tintin stories feature slapstick humor, while others are invested with political and cultural satire, but each will draw your child like a magnet.

Story is More Than the Pictures
Unlike some graphic novels, where the text and the pictures are redundant, Tintin's plots are so engagingly complex that the text both amplifies and explains the neat, lively drawings, a balance that remains a benchmark for graphic novelists even today. This means your child will quickly discover that the story is much more than the pictures; even the most reluctant of readers may for the first time be willing to exert effort to decipher the written word. As a teaching parent you will appreciate the author's painstaking research, which adds to the credibility of each adventure, and your children will gain a glimpse into a world of which they are just beginning to become aware.

Please Note:
Tintin is printed by a secular company and may contain occasional scenes depicting false cultural assumptions of the time and excessive use of alcohol. The author does use these scenes to depict the foolishness of drunkenness.
All About Tintin - What Version is Best for You?
Homeschooling moms love Tintin! The colorful series is engaging for young readers, but especially shines as fun reading for the reluctant reader. We've been told over and over how Tintin has made all the difference for boys who initially disliked reading; but began to love it after reading Tintin.

The Adventures of TinTin Volume 1 February 10, 2015
Reviewer: Joy
Do you really want your son calling his siblings a "bungling jacka**"? (Found on page 56.) We bought this book for our 10-year-old son after hearing so many positive things about it. The reviews were correct -- he loved it, and so did our older daughters. In fact, all of our children became quite addicted to reading it. I finally decided to read it for myself (something I should have done before giving it to my kids), and I was shocked to find so much that I disagreed with! Bad attitudes, name-calling, fighting...doesn't quite fit Philippians 4:8. Ours is going in the trash. If I could give this less than one star I would. TD Reply; Joy, thank you so much for your honest review, we are so sorry that this book was a disappointment to you. We know that in many ways the Tintin series portrays our broken, evil world in a way that is accurate both for the timeframe it was originally written as well as for modern readers. Rather than celebrate evil, the main characters always fight and win against it, so we continue to sell the series in the hope that it will be helpful, inspiring, and age-appropriate for young readers. As for the name-calling, we would never endorse name-calling of any sort. However, the analogy of a foolish person to a donkey or jackass is not only fitting, it is even rather Biblical. Nonetheless, we are so sorry that this book was so unsatisfactory for you, and want to thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. If you would like to discuss this with us more, please don't hesitate to contact us again. " the Timberdoodle Team "

Love it! February 4, 2015
Reviewer: Kristina W.
From my nine year old daughter: " I like Tin-tin because he takes lots of really big chances, but it never kills him. They are really fun to read. I liked that it was a mystery and he had to disguise himself to get into places. I think this book is so fun to read because there is a lot to read and a lot of pictures to look at on every single page. You can see what's going on. " From me: My 9 year old, 7 year old, and even the 6 year old enjoy these books. I actually bought one of the books in French after they read these, because they were so familiar with the story. The pictures and the story line are so engaging that even adults will enjoy spending time reading them. We're hooked!!!

Tintin regularly captivates a wide range of ages October 11, 2013
Reviewer: Valina H.
We are thankful to find Tintin always available through Timberdoodle. Nine of our ten children greatly enjoy these adventures. I think it very likely the youngest will soon join the opinion of his older siblings. We appreciate the new horizons and good humor as well as the motivation to read with these books.

Fun and Engaging August 1, 2013
Reviewer: Happy Family
My son loves the Tintin series. Wonderful summer reading for boys. The stories are suspenseful and engaging. I was thrilled when my son picked up the book to read it for a second time and then asked for more in the series for his birthday. I was thrilled because I had already ordered them for him secretly and now I knew he would love his present!
