Language Arts and Reading
Editor-in-Chief C2 provides your student a story with a mock newspaper article and photo. Engaging and often entertaining, the stories suffer from multiple problems which the student must correct; this is a fascinating way to review grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and attention to detail.

Wordsmith Craftsman focuses on building, integrating, and polishing practical writing skills. Strong in preparing the student for college, Part 1 addresses practical, everyday writing: notes, outlines, personal correspondence, summaries, business letters, and reports. Part 2 focuses on the power of language: paragraphs (principles, types, and organization), writing techniques, and developing a personal writing style. Part 3 concentrates on essay writing: descriptive, narrative, expository, and persuasive essays. Wordsmith equips young adults for a lifetime of excellence in communication skills.

Everyone agrees that children who have a solid grasp of word roots are bound to be children with better spelling and reading comprehension skills, primarily because they have acquired the ability to decode words. But how do you teach Latin and Greek roots? Well, we knew we didn't want something too dull, too schoolish, too intense, or based too heavily on mythology. We also knew that moms are busy enough without another teacher-intensive topic to worry about. With those objectives clarified, it was easy to see that Word Roots B2 is perfect, with its self-teaching, simple, and engaging approach. We've not seen any word roots program more effortless than this one!

By tenth grade, your child's reading likely mirrors his interests. Whether that be firefighting or engineering, cultivate his desire to learn through reading. Assign reading if you must, but encourage it at all costs; a child who enjoys reading will find it easier to excel in every area. By this grade you'll likely be acquainting him with classical literature. If this is not his area of interest, consider the graphic novel versions, as they are often a much more palatable option.

High School 1 Year Plan (Well Planned Day)Well Planned Day High School Planner 2013-2014
Because most families are now planning for the 2013-2014 school year, your High School Planner will be backordered to ship when the new 2013-2014 edition is released, with delivery expected in May.

This spiral-bound planner is specifically designed to keep students on track and ensure they are ready to prepare for college, should that be their goal. Tips and checklists abound, along with custom spaces for your student to record a year's worth of lesson plans, grades, extracurricular activities, and the books he reads. Not only that, but the Well Planned Day High School Planner will help your teen assume responsibility for his own recordkeeping, an important skill for our maturing children.
Ancient Civilizations and the Bible
Ancient Civilizations & the Bible
History Revealed teaches history as your child has never experienced it! History Revealed passionately presents history with take-away assignments that are as diverse as your children. Designed with four-learning styles in mind, History Revealed allows students to approach history from a variety of subject areas. This emphasis on "Unit Studies" allows your teen opportunities to learn history through geography, science, art, architecture, music, literature, creative writing, cooking, stop-motion, and more. From a decidedly Christian perspective, your student will be frequently challenged to consider what God might be doing in a particular moment of history. This will extend his understanding past the fleeting value of academic knowledge to the more significant understanding of God's character. History Revealed Volume 1: Ancient Civilizations & the Bible covers the journey from creation to Christ, including the major events, civilizations, and personalities in the first 4,000 years of world history.
Teaching Textbooks Geometry
Math
Finally, a math text designed for homeschoolers! Teaching Textbooks Geometry's friendly text and often humorous line drawings are specifically intended for independent learners and contain far more explanation than any other math program on the market. Because the Teaching Textbooks series was designed for homeschoolers studying independently, it uses far less irrelevant jargon than other textbooks, while still retaining all the terms that students need to know for those important standardized tests. What ultimately sold me on this program are their computer CDs with down-to-earth, step-by-step multimedia solutions for every problem in the book, plus an additional CD-ROM with complete, step-by-step solutions for every test problem. The lectures -- one for each lesson in the textbook -- provide hours of instruction. They cover the same material as the written lessons in the textbook, but many students prefer to listen to (and watch) an explanation for each lesson rather than read it out of a book. Field-tested with outstanding results, this is a brilliant idea, long overdue and skillfully done, with many hours of instruction. Enjoyable, efficient, and effective; what more could you want from a math program?
Integrated Physics & Chemistry
Science
Integrated Physics & Chemistry is one program that I regret our older children did not have the opportunity to use. It would have been perfect for them because it introduces both physics and chemistry in a way that they would not have found intimidating. This entry-level, applied course gives teens a thorough grounding in basic chemistry and physics. Science concepts are repeated in different ways throughout the sections, and content-rich illustrations, numerous charts, graphs, and data tables assist them in grasping the subject matter. This method is highly engaging and motivates them to learn about the application of physics and chemistry to daily life. IPC consists of twelve chapters of text and twelve companion student activity books, for 180 lessons. While deliberately avoiding complex mathematical equations, this self-paced, high-school-level science course introduces students to the people, places, and principles of physics and chemistry. Written by internationally respected scientist/author John Hudson Tiner, IPC effectively draws teens by using a story approach to teach these complicated topics. This is an engaging way to cover these vital topics in an in-depth manner.
Building Thinking Skills Book 3 VerbalBuilding Thinking Skills Book 3 Verbal
Building Thinking Skills Book 3 Verbal's activities are sequenced developmentally. Each skill (for example, classifying) is presented first in the semi-concrete figural-spatial form and then in the abstract verbal form. Children learn to analyze relationships between objects, between words, and between objects and words as they observe, recognize, and describe characteristics; distinguish similarities and differences; and identify and complete sequences, classifications, and analogies.
SAT
Every student needs to keep his test-taking skills sharp, and Cracking the SAT comes from our very favorite testing series. Even if your student is not college-bound, we encourage you to work through this book with him. The test-taking strategies will serve him just as well whether he is applying for his driver's license or becoming an EMT. For those of you who want to know, yes, this book is secular, but so are the tests!
