Timberdoodle's review
Teaching Textbooks Math 3
Teaching Textbooks Math 3 is a full-year curriculum designed for the typical 3rd grader or an academically-advanced 2nd grader. The product includes a 618-page consumable workbook, a print answer booklet, and 4 PC- & MAC-compatible CDs that contain step-by-step audiovisual solutions to every one of the thousands of homework and test problems.

Topics Covered Include
All the standard topics are covered in Teaching Textbooks Math 3. These include whole numbers, fractions, decimals, dollars and cents, time, perimeter, temperature, and bar and line graphs.

Digital Gradebook
The Math 3 also has a digital gradebook that grades answers as soon as they are entered and calculates percentages for each assignment.

Complete Set Provides Everything Your Child Needs
Most families purchase the complete set, including the instructional CDs, consumable workbook, and answer booklet. The CDs give your student clear, interesting lectures for every lesson, along with detailed step-by-step solutions for all of the problems. The workbook not only provides a convenient place for students to work on the problems without having to copy each one onto separate paper, it also gives students written lesson summaries for them to refer to while doing the problems, and gives your children the option of carrying their work with them away from the computer for added mobility after they’ve watched the lesson.

CDs-only Option May Work for Some Families
Some families choose to buy the CDs only for Math 3 and use them without the workbook. While this option will be less expensive, keep in mind that your child will need to keep a notebook to copy the problems into to work on them, and will lose the other benefits mentioned above of owning the workbook. Please note that you also will not receive the answer booklet with the CDs-only purchase.

Extra Workbooks Available for Additional Students
If you appreciate the benefits of using the Teaching Textbooks workbook, you’ll be pleased to know you can also purchase extra workbooks for additional students without having to buy a complete extra Teaching Textbooks set. If you have two students doing this grade together or another student coming up to this grade, and already own the CDs, click here to purchase an extra workbook. Please note that the CDs are required for this course, as the workbook alone will not contain all of the instructional content.

About Teaching Textbooks

Math for Homeschoolers
A number of years ago we did the unthinkable and took a poke at a sacred cow when we said that we didn't like the conventional big-name home school math programs. Though some families were steadfast in their defense, there has since been an increasing number of families who have come to realize that math programs originally designed to be used in government schools are wholly inadequate to meet the needs of home educators.

You Don't Have to be a Math Teacher!
What is wrong with adapting a school-based text for home use? There are a couple of significant issues with doing that. First, because a typical school text assumes a knowledgeable math teacher, the explanations are often meager and brief. If you double as a math teacher, this will present no problem to you. However, many parents either did not take upper level math as a teen, or if they did, the process is just a distant, unpleasant memory. So sparse explanations in typical texts can be frustrating to both child and parent. Second, government schools' math texts often contain excessive use of terminology, making simple ideas seem complex.

Designed for Independent Learners
However, the Teaching Textbooks series is produced with home educators in mind, so it tackles those issues head-on. Firstly, since the program is designed specifically for independent learners, it offers far more explanation than any others on the market, and the tone is friendly and conversational. Ultimately what sold me on this program are their computer CDs with down-to-earth, step-by-step multimedia solutions for every problem in the book, plus complete step-by-step solutions for every test problem.

Friendly Conversational Tone
The lectures - one for each lesson in the textbook - provide hours of instruction. Students will appreciate listening to (and watching) an explanation for each lesson rather than reading it out of a book. Designed for homeschoolers studying independently, Teaching Textbooks uses far less irrelevant jargon than other textbooks, while still retaining all the terms that students need to know for those important standardized tests, and the tone is friendly and conversational. This is a brilliant idea, long overdue and skillfully done.

Workbook Includes Lesson Summaries
The Teaching Textbooks program also incorporates a workbook in which your child will do daily math assignments. Designed specifically for independent learners, the Teaching Textbooks workbook contains a summary of the lectures from the CD, which allows your child to review key points from the lesson as necessary while working the problems. The workbook also comes with an answer key and a test bank.

Review Method
The Teaching Textbooks series has been field-tested with outstanding results. Like other quality math programs, Teaching Textbooks uses the review method because it is a proven method for ensuring children are able to master difficult subjects such as algebra and geometry. Students using Teaching Textbooks are fully prepared for College Board examinations and college courses. Enjoyable, efficient, and effective, what more could you want from a math program?

    PERFECTION July 12, 2016
Reviewer: Jessica Keller from LORAIN, OH United States
My son used to dread math and fight me over it but now he NEVER puts up a fight to get his math work done and actually enjoys it. This program is worth every penny spent.  I also love that it involves almost ZERO parental involvement as it is the one thing in his curriculum that gives me a break.

    Yes! November 6, 2015

We started homeschooling our first and third grader this year. I was slightly skeptical of the efficacy of a self-directed program for an 8 year old but I am impressed. Even our 6 year old loves to hop on and complete lessons. The little side animation as they complete the problems are compelling enough that my boys want to do another lesson to see what happens on the side margin of the page. The lessons are clearly articulated and the instant feedback for each problem make this a successful plug and play curriculum. Two thumbs up.

    Went up a level November 2, 2015

The nice thing about homeschooling is curriculum flexibility and customization. We used Horizon math in the past and, OH.....the tears. I had no idea how moving to another math program would be especially to an on-line situation, but knew a change had to be made. I went by the reviews and I am happy to report much of the same positive feedback as past reviewers. Hands down, this program works! I do suggest to pre-test your child. We did not prior to ordering, but Timberdoodle was fantastic and swapped the 3rd grade TT Math program out for 4th. The lectures are short and sweet. The examples are engaging and use content that a 10 year old can relate to.

We Love This!! November 2, 2015
    Reviewer: Antonia M.
This has been such an awesome program for our family. My 8 year old son has been okay with doing math so far, but wasn't always grasping "the big idea" of his lessons, and was missing some basic concepts. He'd get easily frustrated, and not being super confident in my own math skills, so would I. We just started doing TT3 a few weeks ago, and when we start school, my son always wants to do his math first now - and wants to do more than one lesson a day. YAY! The lessons are fun and encouraging, and I feel like he's getting a better grasp on the basics. I was worried at first that the lessons were too easy - he's going back to working on basic addition and subtraction, after he was previously doing multiplication and division. But, as I was reading up on Teaching Textbooks, someone suggested looking at the TT as a whole system of math all the way through high school, instead of thinking in terms of just one year. The lessons build on a good foundation, and increase in difficulty from there, but practice and reinforce the basics all the while. I love that this encourages independent learning, and the Parent Gradebook is awesome. I would definitely recommend and will be using for future math!
