Teaching Textbooks Math 4
The Math 4 Teaching Textbooks is a full-year curriculum designed for the typical 4th grader or an academically-advanced 3rd grader. The product includes a 669-page consumable workbook, a print answer booklet, and 4 CDs that contain step-by-step audiovisual solutions to every one of the thousands of homework and test problems.

Topics covered include: Operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, simple geometry concepts, units of measure, and percents.

The Math 4 also has a digital gradebook that grades answers as soon as they are entered and calculates percentages for each assignment.

About Teaching Textbooks

Designed for Homeschoolers
A number of years ago we did the unthinkable and took a poke at a sacred cow when we said that we didn't like the conventional big-name home school math programs. Though some families were steadfast in their defense, there has since been an increasing number of families who have come to realize that math programs originally designed to be used in government schools are wholly inadequate to meet the needs of home educators.

You Don't Have to be a Math Teacher!
What is wrong with adapting a school-based text for home use? There are a couple of significant issues with doing that. First, because a typical school text assumes a knowledgeable math teacher, the explanations are often meager and brief. If you double as a math teacher, this will present no problem to you. However, many parents either did not take upper level math as a teen, or if they did, the process is just a distant, unpleasant memory. So sparse explanations in typical texts can be frustrating to both child and parent. Second, government schools' math texts often contain excessive use of terminology, making simple ideas seem complex.

Combines a Teacher and a Textbook into One!
However, the Teaching Textbooks series is written with home educators in mind so it tackles those issues head-on in a rather innovative way, by combining a teacher and a textbook into one. Firstly, their textbooks, since they were designed specifically for independent learners, contain far more explanation than any others on the market, and the tone is friendly and conversational. Because the Teaching Textbooks series was designed for homeschoolers studying independently, it uses far less irrelevant jargon than other textbooks, while still retaining all the terms that students need to know for those important standardized tests. The textbook also comes with an answer key and a test bank.

Step-By-Step Multimedia Explanations
Secondly, and ultimately what sold me on this program, are their computer CDs with down-to-earth, step-by-step multimedia solutions for every problem in the book, plus an additional CD-ROM with complete step-by-step solutions for every test problem. The lectures - one for each lesson in the textbook - provide hours of instruction. They cover the same material as the written lessons in the textbook, but many students prefer to listen to (and watch) an explanation for each lesson rather than read it out of a book. (Note that you'll still need the textbook, because it has all the homework assignments and the answer key). This is a brilliant idea, long overdue and skillfully done, with many hours of instruction.

Review Method
The Teaching Textbooks series has been field-tested with outstanding results. Like other quality math programs, Teaching Textbooks uses the review method because it is a proven method for insuring children are able to master difficult subjects such as algebra and geometry. Students using Teaching Textbooks are fully prepared for College Board examinations and college courses. Enjoyable, efficient, and effective, what more could you want from a math program?

We love Teaching Textbooks 4. August 23, 2010
    Reviewer: Keli from Frisco, TX
We love Teaching Textbooks 4. I've used it for my advanced 3rd grader and my 4th grader. Both kids love using the computer. It makes math seem like a computer game to them. It has great review of previous concepts and is very thorough. It has taken the stress out of teaching math for me. It's all done for me! I did, however, add some timed math drills just to keep them sharp on the math facts. We love it and recommend it.

I wish I'd had this for my older children February 18, 2010

We love this math program. My 4th and 6th graders are enjoying math, while becoming more confident and independent learners. The constant review really helps cement skills, too. We've used Scott-Foresman, k12 online curriculum, and Saxon before this. Nobody wants to think about changing any time soon. It's a great help to busy parents to have sound and thorough explanations written into every lesson. I wish I'd had this for my older children.

We don't plan to use Teaching Textbook again. February 18, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous person from Atlanta, GA United States
My 4th grade son and 5th grade daughter have used Teaching Textbook 4 and Teaching Textbook 5 this year.  We will be doing another curriculum next year.  We've found the sound effects distracting and frustrating and the constant coaching belittling.  My daughter actually asked to go back to Saxon Math (which I did not like teaching).  We've found Teaching Textbooks to be below grade level compared to many other products.  The main advantage that we've seen with this product is that the parent does not have to spend any time on math.  If your child is younger and wants to make a video game out of math, or you are a parent that wants to spend no time teaching math, then this is for you.

Not to Heavy, Not to Light . . . Just Right February 18, 2010
Reviewer: Kendra McElhanon from Austin, TX United States
My 9 year old feels very successful with this program.  He does his math every day and he usually understands the lecture.  I have had to give additional instruction just twice, and he is on lesson 69.  He love the bonus questions which are offered occasionally and give the opportunity to score higher than 100%.  I love the integrated, ongoing review questions.
