Timberdoodle's review
Teaching Textbooks Math 4
The Math 4 Teaching Textbooks is a full-year curriculum designed for the typical 4th grader or an academically-advanced 3rd grader. The product includes a 669-page consumable workbook, a print answer booklet, and 4 CD-ROMs that contain step-by-step audiovisual solutions to every one of the thousands of homework and test problems.

Topics Covered Include
Operations with whole numbers, fractions and decimals, simple geometry concepts, units of measure, and percents. The Math 4 also has a digital gradebook that grades answers as soon as they are entered and calculates percentages for each assignment. There is no easier program for teaching these necessary skills.

Complete Set Provides Everything Your Child Needs
Most families purchase the complete set, including the instructional CDs, consumable workbook, and answer booklet. The CDs give your student clear, interesting lectures for every lesson, along with detailed step-by-step solutions for all of the problems. The workbook not only provides a convenient place for students to work on the problems without having to copy each one onto separate paper, it also gives students written lesson summaries for them to refer to while doing the problems, and gives your children the option of carrying their work with them away from the computer for added mobility after they’ve watched the lesson.

CDs-only Option May Work for Some Families
Some families choose to buy the CDs only for Math 4 and use them without the workbook. While this option will be less expensive, keep in mind that your child will need to keep a notebook to copy the problems into to work on them, and will lose the other benefits mentioned above of owning the workbook. Please note that you also will not receive the answer booklet with the CDs-only purchase.

Extra Workbooks Available for Additional Students
If you appreciate the benefits of using the Teaching Textbooks workbook, you’ll be pleased to know you can also purchase extra workbooks for additional students without having to buy a complete extra Teaching Textbooks set. If you have two students doing this grade together or another student coming up to this grade, and already own the CDs, click here to purchase an extra workbook. Please note that the CDs are required for this course, as the workbook alone will not contain all of the instructional content.

About Teaching Textbooks

Math for Homeschoolers
A number of years ago we did the unthinkable and took a poke at a sacred cow when we said that we didn't like the conventional big-name home school math programs. Though some families were steadfast in their defense, there has since been an increasing number of families who have come to realize that math programs originally designed to be used in government schools are wholly inadequate to meet the needs of home educators.

You Don't Have to be a Math Teacher!
What is wrong with adapting a school-based text for home use? There are a couple of significant issues with doing that. First, because a typical school text assumes a knowledgeable math teacher, the explanations are often meager and brief. If you double as a math teacher, this will present no problem to you. However, many parents either did not take upper level math as a teen, or if they did, the process is just a distant, unpleasant memory. So sparse explanations in typical texts can be frustrating to both child and parent. Second, government schools' math texts often contain excessive use of terminology, making simple ideas seem complex.

Designed for Independent Learners
However, the Teaching Textbooks series is produced with home educators in mind, so it tackles those issues head-on. Firstly, since the program is designed specifically for independent learners, it offers far more explanation than any others on the market, and the tone is friendly and conversational. Ultimately what sold me on this program are their computer CDs with down-to-earth, step-by-step multimedia solutions for every problem in the book, plus complete step-by-step solutions for every test problem.

Friendly Conversational Tone
The lectures - one for each lesson in the textbook - provide hours of instruction. Students will appreciate listening to (and watching) an explanation for each lesson rather than reading it out of a book. Designed for homeschoolers studying independently, Teaching Textbooks uses far less irrelevant jargon than other textbooks, while still retaining all the terms that students need to know for those important standardized tests, and the tone is friendly and conversational. This is a brilliant idea, long overdue and skillfully done.

Workbook Includes Lesson Summaries
The Teaching Textbooks program also incorporates a workbook in which your child will do daily math assignments. Designed specifically for independent learners, the Teaching Textbooks workbook contains a summary of the lectures from the CD, which allows your child to review key points from the lesson as necessary while working the problems. The workbook also comes with an answer key and a test bank.

Review Method
The Teaching Textbooks series has been field-tested with outstanding results. Like other quality math programs, Teaching Textbooks uses the review method because it is a proven method for ensuring children are able to master difficult subjects such as algebra and geometry. Students using Teaching Textbooks are fully prepared for College Board examinations and college courses. Enjoyable, efficient, and effective, what more could you want from a math program?

Oh we just love this product! My son loves math and he loves this! I like how it give you the assignments in the book and on the computer! As I print them off also so that he can do both! usually does on the computer then next day on paper the lesson he done the day before! We always end with this as it is his favorite! I also love the fact that you can print of the grade book for record keeping! Thanks for a wonderful product!

Teaching textbooks allows me to be as hands-on or hands-off as my time allows. My very active daughter enjoys the 'computer time' and it's not a chore to get her math done. I love that I can see the record of what she's done even if I can't sit with her while she's doing it.

    Teaching Textbooks October 22, 2013
    Reviewer: Janet S.
I have three sons using Teaching Textbooks levels 4, 5, and pre-algebra. My sons find them easy to use and understand. I love the fact that the grading is all done automatically by the software. It frees up much of my time and I do not hold them back because they are waiting on me to grade their work. Two boys like writing the answers in the student book and then inputting the answers into the computer. The other does his work on scratch paper as needed and enters his answers one by one as he works. I recommend using the placement tests on the Teaching Textbooks website as two of my sons placed at a higher level than I'd planned on purchasing. I am very satisfied by this product.
