This is a fabulous product! I recommend it often to family and friends. We had used Abeka up to this point(and it worked with child #1 but not #2) then started using Saxon Algebra and it just wasn't working. Math is not my strongest subject to teach and I had to relearn many concepts just to teach my child. It was taking us 4-8 hours just on algebra most days and I just didn't have that kind of time to spend on one subject. So we decided to make the investment and switch mid-semester. This decision really paid off. My son was able to be an independant learner with Teaching texbooks.(I only grade the papers now!) He easily understands the information and is able to complete the assignments in about 45 minutes! He is also making A's instead of C's. With this program, I felt empowered because every problem has a complete explaination to it. No more groping for how to explain the process. And I mean every problem has an explaination of EVERY step and uses the correct mathmatical terms. It doesn't assume you know something, big plus for us. I wish we had started with this program initially. We wouldn't have lost 1/2 a year. If you are considering switching from your current program, Teaching Textbooks is definitely worth the investment. I wouldn't hesitate to switch at any point in the year.

Do you think that you've tried every math program on the market for homeschoolers? Well, if this isn't one that your student has tried and you need a tried and true, easy to use Algebra program, bite the bullet and invest in this easy-to-use, very thorough, and academically challenging algebra program. You won't be sorry! Our daughter had given up on Algebra, 'Will I really use it anyway?', until we ordered this from Timberdoodle last fall. Math is now her favorite subject and we've been homeschooling 10 years and she's NEVER said that before!

It was up-beat, for us easily understood and Fun! The CD's were very helpful, not boring lectures and gave alternate info if not understanding the books lesson. We are now using the Geometry set and liking it as well.

I am one of those Moms who gave exactly the bare minimum it took to get through math of any sort growing up; and I have the math knowledge to prove it! I was later blessed to receive a gifted student as my firstborn, a daughter who sees higher math as a puzzle to be savored. I needed a curriculum that would allow her to excel beyond my abilities without me being forced to try to keep up and ultimately holding her back. This series is sooo perfect. The challenge my daughter needs and the information required in an easy to assimilate manner! Four thumbs up!! (hers and mine!)

So far, so good. . . |

As with most homeschool families, it's a big decision to invest in a curriculum choice like Teaching Textbooks (especially since we already have Saxon texts for almost all grades.)
However, we took the plunge. . . and so far are very pleased with Teaching Textbooks Algebra. We needed more explanation, more teaching. . . I used Saxon in high school and the same things that frustrated me as a student frustrate my children (and me as a parent!) The younger children still use lots of manipulatives, games, mental math play and Saxon, but starting with the oldest we're using Teaching Textbooks for Algebra and beyond.
