Sequential Spelling for Adults
As the teaching parent in our home, I took a fairly cavalier attitude towards spelling and frequently commented that learning to spell was archaic because there will always be ‘spell check’. Then my older children became volunteer EMTs in a rural community where reports were submitted by hand. What an eye-opening embarrassment! Happily, we had recently discovered Sequential Spelling, and even as old as they were, they started working their way through Book 1.
If we were faced with that same crisis today, we would use Sequential Spelling for Adults. Of course it uses the same word-family approach that's been so successful in the children's version, but Sequential Spelling for Adults features different words that build up more rapidly, and streamlined workbook pages that will quickly improve any teen’s or adult’s spelling skills.
Just like in the children's Sequential Spelling, words are taught in relationship to one another, both horizontally and vertically. The methodological sequencing plus the immediate student self-correction will help older students develop the skills necessary to become competent spellers. With 360 lessons, you can either double up and do two lessons a day to complete this book in a year, or take a more leisurely approach and plan on completing the book in two school years. For ages twelve and older.
