It's funny; what we have been calling a thinking-skill game actually has a name: Eurogame. What makes a game a Eurogame? There are many characteristics, but as homeschooling parents we look for ones that have lots of strategy and very little randomness or chance. Also, we prefer ones where players are never eliminated from the game so all players are still involved when the game ends. Rolit Classic fits these criteria nicely. In this strategy game, players are attempting to capture another's playing pieces. If they are successful, they turn them over to match their own colors. The player with the most playing pieces showing their color at the end of the game wins. As you play you begin to realize the key positions to stake out, but so will your opponents, so it is never clear who will win until the very end. Rolit Classic can be explained very quickly and very successfully; we have been amazed at how fast children catch on. Note: If you have mostly younger children and are looking for a game that will play especially quickly, consider Rolit Junior. Rolit Junior balls are brightly-colored and imprinted with animal images, but the significant difference is the size of the playing board. Rolit Classic has sixty-four moving spaces while Rolit Junior has thirty-six moving spaces.

My sister and I loved playing this game. She really seemed to enjoy figuring out the most strategic place to put her color so that she would have more of her color on the board. I enjoyed the strategy it took to win the game and how you can't tell who is going to win till there are very few spaces left on the board.
