Quicksilver Super Magnetic Thinking Putty with Magnet
An awesome silver color with dark streaks throughout, this slightly stiffer Thinking Putty has a mind of its own. Near a powerful magnet it comes alive more powerfully than ever before! Strong enough to defy gravity, it can even lift tacks and paperclips on its own after charging in a magnetic field. You'll be mesmerized by the invisible forces at play.

One of the most mesmerizing components of Magnetic Marvels is the small chunk of magnetic putty that is included. If your family is like ours, you'll want more.

What Is It?
Magnetic Thinking Putty is a fist-sized chunk of silicone-based putty into which millions of micro-sized mini-magnets have been embedded. It is totally amazing to watch Magnetic Thinking Putty interact with magnets, but it should never be used around computers and cell phones, so it is not our first choice for office fidgeters. See our Thinking Putty selection for a safer option for the office.

How Does It Work?
When the putty is stretched, molded, or shaped, these magnets all face in random directions. This cancels out their magnetic charge and Strange Attractor behaves like any other Thinking Putty. However, in the presence of a magnetic field, the micromagnets begin to align. Once they are facing the same direction, their individual field lines join forces to create a truly magnetic Thinking Putty.

Includes 12mm Cube Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnet!
When a strong Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnet is held close to Strange Attractor, you probably won't feel anything at first. Fear not. Close your eyes and count to five. Pop! The micromagnets align and WOW! This is strong stuff. The strength will continue to increase and the aligned magnetic field expands throughout the entire piece of putty over time.

Note About Clean-Up
Like its cousin Silly Putty, Thinking Putty does stick to fabric, hair, and carpet, so keep an eye on where your little guy puts it! For a tidier option for your wiggler and fidgeter, check out Playfoam. However, if you do find yourself in a predicament and need to remove stray Thinking Putty, try these tips from the manufacturer: Oops, I Sat on my Thinking Putty!

Here are just some of the many tricks you can do using Strange Attractor:

  • Attract a magnet or other pieces of Strange Attractor.
  • Repel a magnet and then attract it back again.
  • Pick up lightweight metal objects.
  • Lock a tendril in space against gravity.
  • Reveal the shape of the field lines emanating from a permanent magnet.
  • Move, roll, and lift a magnet from a distance.
  • Melt around a magnet and the putty will actually lift it off the table.

My daughter wanted me to buy this putty because I was convinced that it is not like other putty! This putty sticks all over the carpet and it is hard to clean it! I regret buying this expensive item and created mess on our carpet!

My family likes this putty because it is so neat and unexpected for putty to magnetic. The kids and I enjoy watching the putty "move" towards the magnet. The texture is slightly grainy and thicker than the color change Thinking Putty, which we've also tried, because it has small metallic flicks in it. It is still very pliable just not quite as easily manipulated. I definitely recommend this putty for its magnetic fun factor but if you are looking for a putty just for small hands to play with I would chose one of the other kinds that aren't as stiff.

    I'm a putty nut! October 3, 2011

Thinking Putty is a family favorite.  However, we love the heat sensitive and magnetic the best, and this Quicksilver Super Magnetic is as good as it gets.  My sons, aged 10-21, especially love this cool magnetic putty. They squeeze it into a shape, set it on the table, and carefully place the magnet about 2 inches away. Then they wait.  Either the putty or the magnet eerily begins to move. If they restrain the magnet, the putty actually stretches out to touch the magnet (it can take awhile).  They love it (and so do I).  This putty is always a top choice as a prize in my Bible clubs, and makes great stocking stuffers.  I highly recommend for teens and above--it's just plain fun!
