Why should I use your curriculum?
For nearly twenty-five years Timberdoodle has sought to bring you only the best in home school curriculum. We not only previewed and sold it, in nearly all cases, we used it. When we started our business, it was the ability to select individual components that set Timberdoodle apart. And while we still offer and encourage parents to match curriculum to their unique family, we recognize that not all parents are comfortable with that particular feature of home teaching. So we are happy to début what we believe is the best of the best.

Why Timberdoodle?

1. Our selection is based on over twenty-five years of home schooling and 24 years of selling home school supplies. We know what works.

2. Because each child in each family is so very unique we have kept our boxed curriculum to a bare bones foundation. You will get everything you need to have an abundantly successful year, with no extraneous fluff. While we strongly encourage you to add the extras, both to inspire and to excite your child, we recognize that in today's economy extras may need to wait.

3. Because we do not self publish we are not limited by our abilities or resources, but have the entire world to hand select from. That greater flexibility encourages us to choose only what we consider the best. We are sure you and your children will be pleased with our offerings. back to the top

Can I use this with multiple students?
Yes and no. Many of the items are ideal for use with more than one child, while others are workbooks. Contact us and we will be happy to get you a list of the workbooks you'll need for your second student. Order the additional student books at the same time as your complete bundle and receive the special bundle pricing on the additional workbooks as well. (Some products are excluded, when the publisher will not allow us to discount.) back to the top

How many hours a day will this take?
That depends not only on the grade of the student, but also on their learning style and individual pace. Roughly speaking though, we plan on averaging about an hour a day for preschool and kindergarten. From 1st-5th grade, the average slowly climbs from 1 to 3 hours a day. 6th grade and up usually takes about 3 hours a day; though again, every family and family member is different, so these times are not in concrete. back to the top

How many school days is this program?
Honestly, this is a very flexible program and can be done as fast or slow as you would like. We have given you sample schedules for a traditional 36-week school year, which you can see online here. You can also arrange the schedule any way you like to meet your needs. back to the top

How do I know if this bundle meets my state requirements?
Every state's requirements vary – some require nothing more than that you declare that you have established a home school. Others require annual testing, filing certain paperwork, covering certain topics or the like. To find out what your state requires, check out this link: http://www.youcanhomeschool.org/starthere/info.asp
Another easy way to find out what your child's peers are covering this year is to simply write your local public school district and ask them for a copy of their scope and sequence for that grade. back to the top

What if I need to change something in this bundle?
Whether your child would prefer to learn a different science subject or you already have history covered, we can customize a bundle for you. Click here to access our customization form and receive a price quote. back to the top

Is this what your family used?
No. In almost all cases we didn't use it simply because that product wasn't available when we were the right age. (For instance, only Pearl has really been able to take advantage of the Teaching Textbooks series, though her older siblings all wish they'd had them!) These bundles are where we would start today, if we had a student in that grade. We have never been good at following directions, so I suspect that no grade level would be followed exactly, but in laying these out for you we have stuck closely to Timberdoodle's principle that if we wouldn't use it we won't sell it. It really is that simple!

Is this 'real' homeschooling or cheating?

For those of you who still feel that unless you handpick each curriculum component for every child you are not 'really' homeschooling; consider this:

I am blessed with a husband who knows computers so when we need a machine to do a specific task he knows what components to purchase and how to put it together. But what if that were not the case and I was suddenly responsible for all computer purchases for our home and business? Then I would rely on a reputable business to provide for me a computer that may lack the personalization that only Dan could give, but will none-the-less do the tasks assigned it.

Likewise with gardening. I don't have the time or even desire to research ideal plants for our area. Instead I find a highly regarded gardening center, and trust their judgment. With additional time (an elusive fixation) or passion (not likely to happen), I may be able to more finely tune the plant selection, but I doubt the outcome would justify the additional effort.

With those thoughts rattling around our brains, we realized we have been remiss in not offering to our customers a boxed curriculum for their children; and these Core Curriculum Bundles have been our solution for you.

What is not included in this package?

  • Bible
First and foremost, you should note that we have not included any Bible programs. Obviously this is the most important topic for your child to grasp. However, we decided to limit our curriculum packages to school topics, and trust parents to do family devotions separately.
  • Electives
Beyond that, you'll find that we've not included electives such as art, music, foreign languages, drafting... We are always happy to offer suggestions if you want to supplement your Core Curriculum with any of those topics, but we determined not to include them in this box both to keep your costs down and to allow you to tailor the electives to fit your child's interest and your local needs.
  • History
For a child of 3 to 5, yesterday seems ages ago, and last year is literally 1/4 of a lifetime away. Simple recounting of his past experiences and your family history will help him to grasp the concept of things happening outside of his memory and prepare him for his introduction to world history in first grade.
  • Science Kits and Thinking Skill Games
We would love to include cases of these, but most of you would prefer to pick out the ones that will most interest your child and fit your household. Letting you select them means that you will not spend money on extra-curricular items that are less than ideal for you.
