Timberdoodle's review

Are you looking for a complete homeschool curriculum for your Pre-Kindergarten student? You'll find that Timberdoodle's Curriculum accommodates the hands-on learner, reaches for academic excellence, and encourages a growing love for learning. We also stress critical thinking skills and, even at this early grade, work towards independent learning. This program is designed for the three- or four-year-old who is eager to learn, but not truly ready to read.

One note: Depending on your child's pace, you will find that this includes enough material for a relaxed two years of learning or a fast-paced one-year approach. Our suggestion? Just jump in and see how your child does. Many will be eager to speed ahead, but if you find that your child really isn't there yet, simply slow down and enjoy this all-too-fleeting stage.

We asked parents who used our Pre-K how long their student spent on "school." Over 65% of them estimated that they spend 30 minutes to 2 hours a day on their kit. (12% spent less, 22% spent more.) That is a lot of variation from family to family so make sure you allow yourself and your child some time to find your own rhythm!

PreK Custom Curriculum Kit September 8, 2016
Reviewer: Marcia W
"...The prices are very reasonable and many times less expensive than elsewhere. Second, I had pieced together what I liked most, and what I thought my daughter would like most, and many of my selections were already part of Timberdoodle's kits. Once I got started, I realized that I could customize the kits, so the subjects where I thought something different would work better, I could swap out. Third, I love love love the hands-on items. I have four children, ranging from six to infant, and when I pull out 'school' everyone wants to be involved. I wouldn't have found many of these items without Timberdoodle, and sometimes those 'extras' are the best part. I also really like the rewards program, but that's not really why I chose Timberdoodle-it's just a perk. :)..." We love our Timberdoodle Curriculum June 8, 2016
Reviewer: Jessie from Normal, IL United States
I bought a  PreK 2015 Custom Curriculum for my four year old daughter, we have been using it for 3 months.
Usborne Alphabet: My child loves this book.  I like that the handwriting practice is age appropriate and lowercase letters.
Magnatab Letters: Both my children love these toys they are used every day.
Beginning Mathematical Reasoning 2: I thought this would be too easy for my 4 year old.  But this workbook does so much more than just numbers.  She is getting a much more rounded math experience than I thought she would.
Kumon Mazes: These are great fine motor activities that my child loves, I’m sorry to see they are not a part of the 2016 curriculum.
Haba Smart Fellow pegging, Imagination patterns and Haba Threading:  These are okay, they are very good quality toys, but are not a favorite of my child or me.
Bambino Luk:  So far these are pretty easy for my 4 year old, but we have only done some of the easiest ones, I am hoping for more of a challenge as we go along.

PreK has been a great year so far! November 20, 2015
Reviewer: Krista L.
Our four year old, who is very active and "hands on", has been so interested in this curriculum that she looks forward to school. Mathmatical Reasoning is her particular favorite and she begs for "more homework"! We have used a workbox system and she independently works from one book to another and another. I have enjoyed discovering what is going on in her little mind, as she is not as outspoken about what she knows. Every book is colorful and draws and holds her attention easily.

Pre-K November 20, 2015
Reviewer: Erin P.
We really do love our Pre K curriculum! At first I was a little bit disappointed in the curriculum handbook, but after a few weeks I realized the beauty of not having something so structured (like you would get with a different companies curriculum). My daughter was really struggling with some things (some of the extras that came with the curriculum) and excelling in others (work books) and I am able to move at her pace. I tried a few "free" curriculums that I found online, but the amount of preparation needed was leaving me burned out. Along with extra supplies needed- I never ended up making it very far with these options. With this curriculum kit I never have to worry about preparation or buying extra supplies. Pros:Fun, colorful, engaging, I don't feel discouraged if we miss a day to play outside or take a field trip day, customer service has been amazing, work books are fun and enjoyable, I don't have to pre-plan anything or purchase anything aside from this kit.Cons:Pretty expensive, Art kit is a bit lacking for the price you pay, not a super rigid schedule (which turned out to be a pro for us) Worth the price: I might do a custom curriculum kit next time to try and save money on things we don't need (like the squishy product), but we will continue to buy the kits every year!Recommended: I would recommend this to people who are looking for a relaxed program. We homestead and have a toddler who requires a lot of attention (and another baby on the way), so this program has been wonderful with its hands on learning and lack of preparation needed. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. Looking ahead, it will be expensive to have 3 kids go through homeschooling, but I do think it will be worth it.

Great mix of activities! November 2, 2015
Reviewer: Laurel K.
We customized our Pre-K curriculum kit for our active 4 year old. This was our first experience with homeschooling and we were considering Pre-K and Kindergarten kits. We checked out a number of different curriculums & we were excited about the activities provided with this kit that weren't primarily reading to our son. We have found it's been a great mix of hands-on activities and book activities. One of our son's favorite activities in the kit is the Three Little Piggies game. He now sets up his own pieces and checks his own work. He gets excited every time he gets a new puzzle correct.Another favorite is the Smart Fellow Pegging. This is another activity where he can complete the design on the card & check his own work. Now he is enjoying completing the designs on the cards over and over again. He also enjoys making his own towers & assigning them levels. The only thing I would change is more cards & designs to be included in the kit.The ThinkPlay Junior Rainbow collection has given him the ability to create multiple models every week! Sliding the pieces together & making sure they were placed in the correct orientation was a bit of a challenge up front. Once he grasped that concept, he's been having fun making models every week. The science kit in recent weeks has been a huge hit. The first weeks were hard to get through, because they were very repetitive & focused solely on the magnifying glass. But, once he got into the weeks of mixing items from the kit in the test tubes, he got excited again & now wants to do science every day! We also find the instructions in the kit are sometimes unclear. We ordered both maze books: My Easy Book of Mazes & Grow to Know Mazes. Our son found these really easy & finished the Easy Book of Mazes in just a few weeks. If we had realized this, we would have swapped these out for harder books for him.We do wish that there was an optional Bible curriculum that could have been added.Overall, we found our 4 ½ year old is cruising through the activities. We expect him to finish the curriculum in about 4 months. And, we look forward to moving into the Kindergarten curriculum with a good precedence set with the Pre-K curriculum.
