Any Teaching Approach and Every Subject Matter is Fair Game
No matter how you home teach, be it unit studies, classical, structured, unschooling or, our favorite, eclectic approach, Stop Motion Animation Kit would be a brilliant addition. This very cool tool functions both as a method and a reward for learning an enormous range of topics. Your children could research and animate historic battles, Bible stories, classical literature, or even what to do in a variety of emergency situations. Once your children get the hang of stop motion animation, everything is fair game. To begin with, your studio crew will need to rough out a script of sorts. After sketching out a plan, they can use any manner of figures or props in their scenes. Lego is a traditional favorite, but we have included a basic Stikfas with this kit. (Please note: Stikfas color may vary.)

Includes a Starter Stikfas
Stikfas are 3.25" ultra poseable figures that have also been widely used to create stop motion animation films. All of the Stikfas joints are ball/socket, and offer exceptional poseability, interchangeability, and articulation. Additional Stikfas and their accessories are available.

Frame Grabbing Software Makes The Process Painless
Once the actors have been selected, your child captures the frames of the scenes with the enclosed camera. This camera is attached to your computer via a USB cable and utilizes frame-grabbing software. Typically when you are animating you take multiple shots of a scene where only minuscule changes have occurred. Frame grabbing software takes all the frames and sticks them together to make a film.

Easy to Edit and Polish
Next your child will edit the footage with Non-Linear Editor, a program that effortlessly allows him to move clips around on a timeline and cut and paste them, all in a matter of minutes. Then he can polish his film up by adding any sounds, dialogue, music, or titles that he might want. Now the finished product is ready to share with family and friends. Save these creative works, they will be priceless treasures in the years to come.

The Stop Motion Animation Kit includes the book Learn Movie Making with Stop Motion Animation, which explains all you need to know in a straightforward manner. You also get a CD with a large collection of sound effects, all the basic software you need for Windows PCs, and a sample movie that you can practice your editing skills on. The kit also contains a specially selected PC camera with up to 800x600 pixel resolution, quality optics with smooth manual focus down to 3cm, full control of exposure, color, and white balance, digital zoom, and fun built-in effects.

Easy to Learn, Difficult to Outgrow We believe that a 10 year-old or a computer-savvy 8 year old will be able to grasp the concepts of animating fairly easily but they may need help with the more technical operations.

My kids loved this informative book! They spend many, many hours of creative time working on movies. The part they love best is the CD with all the sound effects. It has been very rewarding and fun!

Our girls have shot numerous movies and are in the process of writing a super "pet" movie. They create scenes with their doll house furniture and use the Stikfas and Pet Shop pets for characters. I'm glad I found something enjoyable and educational for their Productive Free Time.

My 10 and 11 yo boys were enthralled with this, and would spend hours making little movies. They were, in fact, obsessive about it, and we did have to set some limits on it. So, I definitely think it was worth every penny! (Anything that engages them so fully is a wonderful thing).
