Our Best Geography Game
I was born in Tripoli, Libya, in the long ago days when the USA maintained an Air Force base nearby, long before the tyrannical reign of Muammar al-Qaddafi. But while I was emotionally attached to Africa, much of African geography was still a mystery to me until I played 10 Days in Africa. Since then, the makers of 10 Days in Africa have added 10 Days in Europe, 10 Days in the USA, and 10 Days in Asia.

Wonderfully Simple Premise...
In each game, the goal is to create a 10-day journey through the selected country or continent via foot, car, plane, or railroad. The "game board" is actually a sturdy geopolitical map with a recap of the rules printed in the corners.

...That Builds Critical Thinking Skills
The game is easy to learn, so most children will catch on within a couple of minutes. But the strategy involved compels players to take their time and study the board, trying to make sense of the itinerary they drew. Adding to the need for thoughtful contemplation is the rule that there is no opportunity to rearrange tiles once you've put them on your rack. Your only option is to discard a card and hope to draw a more appropriate card.

But What Is A Legal Play?
You can travel by foot if the countries are adjacent. You may travel by car only if you draw a car tile and wish to travel through one country to get to another. And you may fly between two like-colored regions if you have the same colored plane. Trains are available only in the Asia game and have limited usability. As soon as a player has completed a ten-day journey, he wins.

Not Boring, Mindless Or Easily Exhausted
Most children blanch at playing educational games, as educational often means boring when it comes to board games. But the designer of the 10 Days series has not sacrificed engrossing entertainment for the sake of education. Now we can become more familiar with each continent as we develop skills in board game strategy.

Recommended for ages 10 to adult, but I think an eight-year-old, with a bit of practice, could easily handle this game.

My boys are learning without trying February 19, 2009

My boys love the 10 days to Africa, Europe, and USA games. They really enjoy and look forward to playing them. The games are fun because of the strategy, and learning Geography on top of it is a bonus. The visual map is very useful in becoming aware of locations and they are learning without trying. I highly recommend these games for hands on learners and game lovers.

I highly value these games in our home! November 5, 2008

"10 Days In" games have helped my entire family to learn the United States and the countries in Europe.  My 7 and 10 year old boys love challenging anyone who visits to play the game. We started with Europe in 2007 to play while studying the countries using Galloping the Globe.  We quickly learned where each country was located. Reading is not a huge issue, as the countries a color coded, so the 6 yr old could play also. I highly value these games in our home!

A huge success in our family! November 4, 2008
Reviewer: Susan M. from Chesapeake, VA
The entire '10 Days in' series has been a huge success in our family.  We enjoy the fact that it provides multi-generational learning at the same time as providing fun family time.  Learning where various countries are located is the purpose, and this goal is easily met.  While playing, plotting strategy is useful for older children, as well as learning coping skills when things don't go as hoped for.  For the younger set, just becoming familiar with basic geography counts as a win.

We purchased the "Ten Days" games for the children and they quickly became favorites.  They enjoy playing them.  It is a very fun way to learn where countries are.  I am learning, too.

You obviously learn geography with these games... October 24, 2008
Reviewer: Danielle H. from Columbia City, IN
We love these games (10 Days in Africa, Asia and USA); that's why we now have 3 of them!  You obviously learn geography with these games, but the kids also learn some strategy and problem-solving skills along the way.  The quality is great, and we even let the littles join in for locating the countries.
