Demonstrates A Slew Of Mathematical Relationships. This T-shaped scale with twenty weights visually demonstrates a slew of mathematical relationships. The hinge of the balance is the same as the "equals" sign in a number sentence. Moving a weight away from the center makes it "heavier;" hence, the number gets bigger. Practice Equations With the Number Balance, you can practice addition by placing one weight on the left side and asking your child to balance it with two or more weights on the other side; subtraction by placing a weight on a number on the left and a weight with a smaller number on the right and have your child solve for the missing number; multiplication by hanging two weights on the number "4" and seeing that it equals one weight on the number "8;" and division by hanging one weight on the number "9" and giving your child three weights to find a place for. My fifth and sixth children are still using it!! November 5, 2008 Reviewer: Sheralyn Belyeu from Alexander City, AL United States   I bought a math balance eight to ten years ago and use it almost daily with my elementary aged children. I keep the balance beside a box of Cuisenaire rods and have the children "prove" their answers with more than one manipulative. Rods are definitely better for subtraction, so if I had to choose one, I would use rods. (I'm very glad I can have both!!) Was this review helpful to you?

great visual math tool October 24, 2008 Reviewer: Anna from Orange, CA United States   My kids enjoyed playing with this balance.  It helped reinforce in a fun way their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.  I also used it to introduce solving algebra equations.  If you have visual and kinesthetic learners, this balance is a neat math tool! A great reinforcing tool!
