Artist-Quality, Thick-Lead Pencils
PrismaColor 36-Piece Pencil set has brilliant, blendable, permanent colors. Lead texture is soft and provides a smooth "feel" with excellent lay-down of color. These pencils are thick enough that, using a blunt point, larger areas are covered quickly. Ideal for younger children. Packaged in a durable tin, a Faber-Castell GRIP Trio Sharpener is included with this set!

More Information
Why use colored pencils? Colored pencils are convenient, easy to transport, and practical to work with anywhere. Colored pencils will allow you lots of control so that it is easy to keep your lines clean and precise. Unlike painting, your child can work all day with the vibrant colors of colored pencils without any of the mess.

If you grew up with the same colored pencils I grew up with you may be thinking, "I don't remember colored pencils having particularly vivid pigments." Don't let thoughts of the typical school-quality colored pencils influence you. Those inexpensive pencils are of poor quality with hard, gritty leads. They will not only waste your money, but also your child's time and effort.

Professionals Agree: Prismacolor Is the Best!
Using top-flight colored pencils is a lot like painting with watercolors. Because the pigment is somewhat transparent, the hue of one pencil applied over another will combine visually to create a new hue. Such complex compositions are pleasing to the eye. On the other hand, unmixed colors often convey rawness and lack of subtlety. So where does a mom with little art background go to find a high-quality colored pencil? As with all our products, the first step was research. No matter where we turned, resource books, art courses, artists, even sales representatives for competing manufacturers, the recommendations were all the same: Prismacolor.

High quality pencils January 14, 2014

These pencils are expensive, but when it comes to art supplies, you get what you pay for! These are professional artist quality, if you search youtube you can see the type of work that can be done with them. Sorry Crayola, there's no comparison here... The pencils are incredibly soft and waxy on the inside, and should not be sharpened with an automatic sharpener as they can ruin it. You can sharpen to a fine point or leave more blunt. These can be erased and the colors can be built on top of each other and blended. Because these are so soft, occasionally they can break internally and are then difficult to sharpen. This is the trade off for using a soft, waxy, delicious colored pencil. They do come in a nice protective case. Highly recommended, even for the grade-school set.

    PrismaColor 36-piece pencil set January 3, 2014

I bought these for my daughter for Christmas, she loves them, the colors are just beautiful. They seem to be holding up well. Usually colored pencil leads break easily, but not these. We both love that they are in a sturdy metal box.

I will never go back! January 14, 2013

I will never go back to any other namebrand coloring pencil. I have found that other cheaper colored pencils break easier, dull faster and don't have the same vibrant colors. All my children love using the prismacolor pencils. Even though they are more expensive it has been an opportunity to teach even my younger ones to value things, to use one at a time and replace when done using them.

The only choice for a budding artist June 2, 2012
    Reviewer: Rhonda
My daughter is in a very professional art school which expects their students to go on to win competitions and scholarships, and these are the only brand they will allow the kids to use. They are smooth, durable, and last forever. You'll end up buying a bunch of the cheap ones before you'd ever need to replace these. The durability definitely makes up for the higher cost initially, and the ability to blend colors smoothly and do advanced shading techniques will allow children to become true artists while holding their interest in ways cheaper brands can't. I highly recommend these as a part of your art curriculum.
