Timberdoodle's review

Do you need a customized Preschool Timberdoodle Core Curriculum?

Are you looking for a complete homeschool curriculum for your preschooler? You'll find that Timberdoodle's Core Curriculum engages the hands-on learner, reaches for academic excellence, and encourages a growing love for learning. We also stress critical thinking skills and, even at this early grade, work towards independent learning. This program is designed for the two- or three-year-old who is ready for a more intentional approach to learning with an emphasis on activities and conversations rather than worksheets alone. Of course, most preschoolers are eager to have their own workbooks, too, so we've included the very best ones available to be sure you both enjoy this year!

Depending on your child's pace, you will find that this includes enough material for a relaxed two years of learning or a fast-paced one-year approach. Our suggestion? Just jump in and see how your child does. Many preschoolers will be eager to speed ahead, but if you find that your child really isn't there yet, simply slow down and enjoy this all-too-fleeting stage.

Timberdoodle's Scheduling Helps Guide Timberdoodle's Scheduling Helps Guide
This guide helps you know which books to use when and how to schedule your school year. A weekly checklist is included so that you can verify at a glance that you are including a wide variety of activities in your tiny tot's routine. We don't encourage a detailed daily schedule since no two days are identical for a wee one, at this age especially, a relaxed approach is so much more appropriate!
Montessori: Letter Work
In the innovative, interactive board book, Letter Work, your toddler will learn the sounds and shapes of each letter. Based on the century-old and highly successful Montessori way of teaching, chubby fingers will find these letters, with uber-fine sandpaper texture, irresistible for tracing. Visually appealing and educational in every way, each Letter Work page features basic phonetic sounds; touchable, traceable letters; and an elegantly simple illustration to provide context.

Language Lessons for the Very Young 1 Language Lessons for Little Ones 1
When you think of grammar, do you think of endless memorization and lengthy, tedious workbooks, suitable only for the most meticulous older student? If so, you're not thinking of Language Lessons! Language Lessons is the finest implementation of the Charlotte Mason method of instruction we've seen. The short daily lesson may include a picture study with a full-color painting, poetry appreciation, narration, copy work, or more. With only a few minutes at a time, your child will already begin cultivating language skills in Preschool!
I Can Trace! / I Can Cut!
Focusing specifically on tracing and scissor skills, these two titles are well-loved by kids and parents alike and are outstanding books, worthy of any child's time and effort. One of the often-overlooked but really important things he'll learn with this series is the vital skill of staying on task while completing a worksheet. The bite-sized activities are not too hard or long for most two- or three-year-olds, and staying on task is a skill your child will need for the rest of his life! Each massive book includes seventy-five activities, along with a write-and-wipe laminated page in the back of the book and a handful of bonus activities from the other books in the Big Skills series.
Big Skills for Little Hands - I Can Trace!
Big Skills for Little Hands - I Can Cut!
Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1 Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1
Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1 is a highlight for this age. The activities are simple, engaging, and colorful. Whether it is pointing to the group of four yellow horses or crossing off the fish eaten by the cat, this book is a perfect introduction to the basics of math. At this age, math is an interesting puzzle to be solved, and Mathematical Reasoning will not let it become tedious to your child.
Rainbow Peg Play Activity Set
Rainbow Peg Play Activity Set is so versatile, it is no surprise that it is a classic among homeschoolers. Preschoolers can put the easy-to-grab jumbo pegs in the double-sided, soft-rubber-foam mat; stack the pegs to make a tower; or even lace the pegs with the included laces. There are so many fun ways to work on fine-motor skills, counting, sorting, and colors! Rainbow Peg Play includes thirty colorful hexagon-shaped pegs, a reversible peg mat, two 36" laces, and a short pamphlet with ideas for learning activities.

Building Thinking Skills Beginning
Building Thinking Skills Beginning
You and your child are sure to enjoy Building Thinking Skills Beginning. The colorful pages and (often) lap-friendly activities provide a perfect way to build his emerging thinking skills. Includes fun riddles, multiple component descriptions (e.g., point to the one that is blue and has a corner), finish-the-picture activities, opportunities for him to tell the story behind the pictures, and much more.
Day and Night
Logic for toddlers? I love this Smart Game! Renowned for their single-player games for the older child, Smart Games now has games for the littlest thinker. Day and Night Logic Game is a charming game of logic using colors, shapes, and silhouettes. Each challenge is incrementally more difficult than the last and is geared for your child's growing and developing thinking and motor skills.

Wedgits 20-Piece Tote
Wedgits 20-Piece Tote
There is an amazing amount of spatial and geometric learning to be discovered with the use of Wedgits. The Wedgits 20-Piece Tote, with slightly larger pieces for little hands, is designed especially for two- and three-year-olds. Also includes a Wedgits Building Board and forty-eight design cards, all bundled in a handy carry tote. From simple recognition of the pieces to complex designs, the design cards are grouped into four graduated building levels, growing in complexity to provide a continual challenge for your child's reasoning and manipulative skills. This set will challenge your child's dexterity as well as her creative thinking skills.
Jumbo Pencil 2-pack & Fish Sharpener
A standard-sized pencil is often difficult for sweet, chubby fingers to grasp. These Jumbo Pencils make gripping easier with their large surface area, triangular shape, and appealing grippy nubs. We're also including the Faber-Castell Fish Sharpener, a child-sized sharpener that can sharpen both regular and jumbo-sized pencils. With a compartment to contain messy shavings and a bonus eraser cap to keep the shavings where they belong, the ergonomic, high-quality Faber-Castell Fish Sharpener is both functional and fun and makes a perfect addition to any homeschooler's desk.

My First Scissors
Creativity for Kids My First Scissors
The Creativity for Kids My First Scissors are really cool, chunky fish scissors that make cutting paper easier for little hands. The ergonomically designed, bright orange and yellow scissors operate with a spring mechanism, are for both right-handed and left-handed use, and feature blades with rounded points for safety. Officially for ages 4+, we've included them in preschool simply because we haven't been able to find safer or better beginning scissors.
Big Oball
Bigger circles, bigger holes, bigger ball, bigger action. Everything about the Big Oball is bigger. Yet it is just as smooth and shiny, and just as indestructible, as the Oball Rattle. Kick it, stomp it, crush it, and the Big Oball bounces right back to a perfectly formed sphere. Made of silicone, the Oball is lightweight and durable; just pop it in your dishwasher when the need arises. Multi-colored.

PRESCHOOL COMPLETE
(also includes everything in Basic Package)
Timberdoodle's Complete Curriculum Kits include everything listed above plus loads of science, fine-motor skill manipulatives, alphabet tools, and enjoyable books that add sparkle to learning time.
Mommy, Teach Me!
A homeschooling mom of twelve and a Montessori teacher, Barbara Curtis presents practical ways to properly nurture and educate your preschool child. A breath of fresh air for the insecure or new homeschooler, she offers both words of encouragement and user-friendly, step-by-step learning activities that will gradually build your child's academic skills through hands-on exercises. With introductions to math, science, geography, fine arts, and spiritual life, Mommy, Teach Me! will give the absorbent mind of your preschooler an educational advantage.
Mommy, Teach Me!
G is for Goat G is for Goat
We suggest reading a new alphabet book every week with your preschooler to help him become familiar with the letters and their sounds. (Your local library will save you a fortune this year!) To get you started, though, we've included our very favorite alphabet book, G is for Goat. With the super-sweet illustrations and engrossing look at the life of goats from the perspective of a very young farmer, this book has a ton of appeal to parents and kids alike! Reading should be pleasurable, and at this age that is easy to attain.
Lauri Alphabet Puzzles
As children manipulate the three-dimensional, bright crepe foam rubber letters in the Lauri Alphabet Puzzles, they increase visual and tactile perception, shape discrimination, and hand-eye coordination. For the youngest, think of these as fabulous perception puzzles (just think of how similar E & F, O & Q, R & P, and M & N are). At two, most toddlers are able to pick out each letter by name. Older children can match lower case and upper case, put together words, and use the puzzles for phonics games.

Big Book of Things to Spot Big Book of Things to Spot
Usborne's Big Book of Things to Spot contains four titles in one volume, making it the book to take along on a trip when you know there will be waits or delays. This book is crammed with over 4000 things to spot on a farm, in the town, or pertaining to animals or history. While searching the colorful, beautifully illustrated pages, your preschooler will learn the names of both animals and objects. You will also discuss numbers, counting, colors, shapes, and differences. Just doing a page or two a day will enrich your child's vocabulary in a way that you both will find enjoyable.
Colorback Sea Turtle Bead Maze
Of all the magnetic bead mazes we considered, the Educo Colorback Sea Turtle Bead Maze will give your family the best dollar value. Bead mazes, magnetic wands with colorful beads sealed tight behind a layer of acrylic plastic, have long been treasured for encouraging writing-readiness skills. But the vibrant graphics of the Educo Colorback Sea Turtle Bead Maze also promote color identification, matching, language, and listening skills. After your child learns to match the correct beads to each colored section of the turtle's shell colors, ask him to place specific colors in other locations. How well does he remember your instructions? The Sea Turtle Bead Maze offers your child a fine-motor activity that promotes concentration, balance, and matching.

Bunny Peek-A-Boo Bunny Peek-A-Boo
What a delightful brain game for your two- and three-year-olds! As they arrange the large, sturdy wooden blocks and lovable bunny to match the cards, they will learn prepositions such as on, behind, and under, as well as develop the critically necessary skill of 3-D spatial perception, important for reading and mathematical reasoning. Bunny Peek-A-Boo includes sixty challenges printed on individual cards; a red, yellow, and blue block; and, of course, the sweet bunny.
Goki Slider Board
This heirloom-quality, German-designed educational tool will keep busy fingers occupied for hours as your child tries to arrange the colors and solve the sixteen pattern cards. The Goki Puzzle Board's beautiful wood finish makes the task of sorting even more pleasurable. While this age needs lots of visual discrimination and fine-motor skills practice, Goki's Puzzle Board adds the additional skill of thinking ahead.

Big Book of Play and Find Out Science Projects Big Book of Play and Find Out Science Projects
Teaching science to your three- and four-year-olds has never been easier. Using the Big Book of Play and Find Out Science Projects as a guide, you and your child will explore physical science, nature, bugs, and the human body in a way that will engage and excite. Loads of simple experiments using ordinary household products will explain important concepts like why we wear seatbelts, why our bones are hard, how butterflies drink, and why cats' eyes glow. This age group especially learns basic scientific concepts best with hands-on experiments, and Big Book of Play and Find Out Science Projects does not disappoint with over fifty easy-to-do activities.
Primary Science Kit
We were smitten the first time we saw Learning Resources Primary Science Kit, and apparently we weren't the only ones. Winner of the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio 2010 Gold Seal Award, Primary Science is a collection of ten durable, plastic, easy-to-grip replicas of real-life science lab tools. Simple science experiments sized just right for smaller, clumsier hands, these tools are not just for play. Each chunky tool actually works. Tiny bugs are magnified, measurement markers are accurate, and the sturdy tweezers add a dimension that less extensive sets leave out. The ten colorful, double-sided activity cards encourage scientific inquiry and curiosity. Your children will have a blast pouring, mixing, combining, and measuring their concoctions.

Twisty Droppers Twisty Droppers
These cheery eyedroppers add a playful dimension to building fine-motor skills and teaching cause and effect. The perfect size for preschoolers, Twisty Droppers are a grand supplement for early science exploration, and to build little hand muscles, too. Each Twisty Droppers is six inches long. Colors will vary.
H2O la la!
Many science experiments are enhanced by the use of colored water. H2O la la's tablets are completely safe, non-staining, and are the easiest way to add striking color to water. American-made for children and with no added oils, fragrances, or soap, H2O la la's tablets will delight your child with fizzy action and a dazzling burst of color. Includes 300 tablets, assorted in both size and color: red, yellow, and blue!

PRESCHOOL ELITE
(also includes everything in Basic and Complete Packages)
Our Elite Curriculum Kits include all of the materials listed above along with even more bells and whistles such as puzzles, active music cards for tiny tots, Bubber, and even a ride-on puppy!
Jumbo Bananagrams Jumbo Bananagrams
Bananagrams for toddlers? Yes! The all-new, oversized Jumbo Bananagrams tile is an indestructible, substantial three-inch square, so it is safe even for your little guys. Your child can match tiles, locate a particular letter, or, to really challenge his auditory memory, find a short series of letters. Turn the tiles over and play a memory game, put the tiles in alphabetical order, or spell simple words. Once you get started, you will be astonished at all that you can do with Jumbo Bananagrams!
DuoAnimo Puzzle Set
It is hard to overestimate the importance of puzzles in developing your preschooler's brain. The ability to visualize parts of a whole, remember visual cues, and even simply the ability to use trial and error to solve a problem are all critical developmental skills. These cute puzzles of animals at home will engage your young puzzler. Start with lots of assistance, of course, until your child can easily do a puzzle by himself. Then mix two puzzles together for him to sort and solve!
DuoAnimo Puzzle Set
Bubber and Castle Molds
Bubber and Castle Molds
Imported from Sweden, Bubber is an excellent source of tactile stimulation, improving gross- and fine-motor skills in a satisfyingly gentle way. Startlingly light, it leaves clean, sharp edges when cut and precise impressions when imprinted. Children enjoy working with Bubber because it is not sticky or gritty; it actually feels warm in their hands. And because it is so very soft, even the tiniest or weakest hands can shape this compound. Bubber is messy, so indulge when housework can take a backseat to creativity. But it never leaves a residue, never dries out, and cleans up quickly and easily--you can even use your vacuum! Four ounces of Bubber comes in a convenient storage bucket. We also include a safe knife and molds to make round and square pillars. What will your child make first? Castles? Muffins? The perfect birthday cake?
The Music Box
Rhymes are one of the most enjoyable ways to give our children a rich and robust vocabulary. Not only that, but rhymes help our brains recall words and facts, a perfect workout for developing minds. And because actions, movement, or dances are associated with children's rhymes and songs, your child's gross-motor skills will flourish! Once you understand the importance of songs, rhymes, and finger plays to your child's education, you'll realize that the handful you know are sorely inadequate for the task. The Music Box's wealth of 180 options will make this part of your toddler's education fresh and enjoyable.
The Music Box
Wahoo Puppy Wahoo Puppy
From his endearing marshmallow-shaped eyes, to his ground-hugging, sausage-shaped body, Wahoo is the perfect puppy for your active toddler. But Wahoo is not just for idle sitting; he is made for bouncing, jumping, and, for the more coordinated, leaping! Made of super-strong vinyl, Wahoo has no weight limit, so if dad can fit, dad can ride! Wahoo can be an ideal companion for working off excess energy and a restful place to sit during family read-alouds. Available in pink or blue; please don't hesitate to specify your preference.
