So easy! So inexpensive! So thorough! |

This is my second time using this book. Now, with my second child I truly see the beauty of this book! You don't need a complicated system of drill. You don't need anything expensive. If you use this book properly, it will work, and work well! My 5.5 year old is flying through this book. I do what the author suggests, and take it slow. We use the white board or paper every day to dictate what was learned, and a little review. Our lessons are less than 15 minutes per day and my 5.5 year old is already at a solid Kindergarten level after only 1 month of instruction, and I never had to go to any long winded seminars, or read complicated manuals. My daughter loves Dewey, and doesn't miss all the time consuming games, flashcards, activities, and fluff of the "other programs" out there. We love Phonics Pathways.

Build a strong reading foundation with this book |

Our two children are both strong readers and I attribute this, in part, to Phonics Pathways. It has given them a good, strong foundation in which they've been able to build upon over time.
Now, though they are both reading chapter books, we still incorporate review with Phonics Pathways. It has encouraged greater fluency.
Note: We did not attempt to teach spelling with this book. We moved along at a steady pace for developing solid reading skills only.

Buy this book over 100 Easy Lessons! |

With my 1st child, I used 100 Easy Lessons, and then used Phonics Pathways with my 2nd. Phonics Pathways is far superior. It teaches many basic phonics rules that are never covered by 100 Easy Lessons. For example, how to determine whether to use a short or long vowel sound, presenting side-by-side words like mat and mate, fad and fade, etc. Phonics Pathways also uses normal letters from the very beginning, rather than phonetic symbols, and the learning is enhanced by this use of normal print from the beginning.
The approach taken in this book is very systematic and thorough. Similar words presented side-by-side to help the child in making connections. The exceptions to the rule are only introduced later after the rule has been established. There is really no prepwork required. We spend 5-10 minutes a day on this book.
Use this book from the beginning with each child. A great price for all of the value and learning packed in this book.

Just what we needed |

These products filled the gap of reinforcing and smoothing out beginning reading after finishing Learn to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. I had looked for and tried several other products that were either ineffective or fell short of filling that gap. Phonics/Reading Pathways was just what we needed to take reading from 'hard work' to something that we looked forward to. I recommend both these products, but if you have to choose only one get Phonics Pathways.

A good fit for my 6 year old |

Phonics Pathways is a good fit for my 6 year old. It is a solid program without distractions. I would not say my son is overly eager to work through the lessons, but he didn't fuss like he did with the other program we were using.
