If you are looking for a complete, effective phonics program, Phonics Pathways is just the ticket. With a simple layout and steady progress, this no-frills, straightforward approach to phonics tutoring is easy enough for even novice parents/teachers to understand and use. Phonics Pathways is logically laid out with virtually no teacher preparation involved.

A multi-sensory approach means that all learning types can benefit from this book. With a mere 10 to 15 minutes a day, usually one or two pages, your child will be reading before you know it. Built-in reviews to aid retention include sentences that can be sounded out based entirely on the lessons previously taught, which eliminates guessing.

Phonics Pathways includes the phonics rules that other phonics-based programs do not. It also contains spelling rules in the lessons as well as quick-reference spelling and pronunciation charts. (It also has inane maxims on many pages that can be used as discussion starters or completely ignored.) This book is essential for all pre-readers and their parents. 288 pages.

Great, so far! October 25, 2011
Reviewer: Catherine Smith from Covington, PA United States
I ordered Phonics Pathways to "ease" my soon to be five year old into reading.  This is our number one goal for her schooling this year.  I've taught my oldest two children to read using a traditional classroom based curriculum, but wanted something more "all in one place" to begin teaching my third.  So far, I've been very pleased with the layout of the book and having the simple activities and games to enforce what she learns on each page.  She loves being able to read the blends (the only part we've covered so far) and lights up when she reads them correctly.
I would definitely recommend this book to someone starting out and teaching phonic blends.  It has a lot of included resources and well worth the price.  I also like that I will be able to use it again in a few years with my youngest!

Wouldn't use anything else! June 29, 2011
Reviewer: Lisa W. from Mountain Home, AR United States
I've used Phonics Pathways with our 2 youngest children and wish I'd had it to use with the older ones, as well!  I used 100 Easy Lessons with the others, which was a fine program, but I appreciate Phonics Pathways even more.  Phonics Pathways definately has a bit more "pizazz" than 100 Easy Lessons, without being overly "cutsey".  I used the reading aspect only (no writing) and just stuck with a page until it was mastered.  Neither of my children needed to complete the whole book, although I did with my youngest...at his request.  He didn't want to miss reading about "Gus".  We supplemented with Bible Readers and a few Bob Books.
My children are all excellent readers and I believe Phonics Pathways gave them a great foundation!

Love that it is all in one book! November 1, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Nebraska, United States
I was nervous to teach my son how to read, but after using this book, my nerves settled down.  This is such an easy, no nonsense way to teach phonics that I sincerely believe anybody could do it using this program.  Not only does the program have words, phrases and sentences for the student to read, but it also has fun games too.  My son loved this program and is now enjoying reading books just like his brother.

So easy! So inexpensive! So thorough! May 29, 2009
Reviewer: Sandra Dumas from Boynton Beac, FL United States
This is my second time using this book.  Now, with my second child I truly see the beauty of this book!  You don't need a complicated system of drill.  You don't need anything expensive.  If you use this book properly, it will work, and work well!  My 5.5 year old is flying through this book.  I do what the author suggests, and take it slow.  We use the white board or paper every day to dictate what was learned, and a little review.  Our lessons are less than 15 minutes per day and my 5.5 year old is already at a solid Kindergarten level after only 1 month of instruction, and I never had to go to any long winded seminars, or read complicated manuals.  My daughter loves Dewey, and doesn't miss all the time consuming games, flashcards, activities, and fluff of the "other programs" out there.  We love Phonics Pathways.

Build a strong reading foundation with this book February 19, 2009
Reviewer: Jessica Phillips from Bloomington, IN United States
Our two children are both strong readers and I attribute this, in part, to Phonics Pathways.  It has given them a good, strong foundation in which they've been able to build upon over time.

Now, though they are both reading chapter books, we still incorporate review with Phonics Pathways.  It has encouraged greater fluency.

Note:  We did not attempt to teach spelling with this book.  We moved along at a steady pace for developing solid reading skills only.
