Ability to Match Patterns
When Dan's dad suffered a stroke in the summer of 2010 he lost a lot of skills, but probably the most surprising was his capacity to match patterns. The ability to match patterns, to sort according to size, shape and color, and to discern symmetry and congruence, are all necessary before a person, regardless of age, can master math concepts.

Endless Opportunities
Multifaceted Pattern Play blocks, with their dynamic colors and unusual shapes, provide endless opportunities to master these foundational skills.

Learn in an Entertaining Way
Using tactilely-pleasing blocks and Pattern Cards that range in difficulty from easy to mind-boggling, Pattern Play builds both critical thinking and spatial skills and promotes visual discrimination in a very entertaining way.

Cerebral Exercise for Brains of All Ages
Suitable for children as young as three, but as we have learned, Pattern Play is a great cerebral exercise for brains of all ages. Includes 40 sturdy wood blocks, a 10.5"-square wood building tray, 40 Pattern Cards and a drawstring canvas storage bag.

Build the foundations of mathematics knowledge.

  • 40 exceptionally well-finished wood blocks
  • 10.5" square wood building tray
  • 40 pattern cards
  • Canvas drawstring storage bag

Great Toy to Keep Little Ones Busy! November 30, 2012
    Reviewer: OregonMom
We bought the product to help keep a couple little ring-bearers (then ages 2 1/2 and 5 1/2) busy during their sisters weddings (we had 3 in a short amount of time) Pattern Play was in the bucket with several other items for them to play with. It came out each and every time, and has how earned a spot on our school shelves. Older kids and adults can be found enjoying making patterns as well. It is never a boring toy.

    Big Hit! October 3, 2011
Reviewer: Susan from SC United States
I was little hesitant to spend $20+ on something that looked small, but was pleasantly surprised when I received the Pattern Play blocks.  They are much bigger than they look onscreen and the colors are wonderful!  My 7 yr. old loves colors and manipulating blocks, so I expect him to get hours of play out of these.  I love the fact that he's learning, but he only thinks he's playing!  Thanks Timberdoodle!

    great mind-builder August 22, 2011
Reviewer: Rebecca Kvenvolden from Federal Way, WA United States
I am always on the lookout for a good independent play activity that is engaging, intellectually stimulating, and fun.  Pattern play meets the mark on all criteria.  Of course being a color addict myself, i knew upon looking at the website page that we would HAVE to buy this toy and that i'd be spending a good chunk of time playing with it myself and while that has failed to come to fruition, as much as I'd hoped (i DO have 7 children!) those who DO have more free time than me have had a blast with it.  it comes with a neat carry bag, which facilitates clean up for the little guys, and is so open ended and creatively stimulating, minus the mess! I shorted it a star only because I find the price to be a little on the high side.

Great for visual discrimination May 6, 2011
Reviewer: Andrea G. from Washington State
We purchased this item for our three and four year old daughters.  It is an activity they both look forward to.  It has increased their attention span and I can see how it has improved their problem solving skills.  They feel incredibly proud when they are able to copy one of the pattern cards without requiring any help.  The only complaint, and it is a small one, is that the pieces seem to be a little loose in the board so that sometimes as you are building the pattern it may shift.  At first this was frustrating for our little ones, but now they have learned to place the blocks more gently and I have not noticed any frustration in the regard recently.

Pretty Pattern Set October 26, 2010
    Reviewer: Amy from Ohio
We enjoy the Pattern Play set. I love the colorful, wooden pieces. It comes with a drawstring back to store it in, but it doesn't stack well on a shelf. The pieces do slide around a bit in the tray, which can be frustrating, but I think if they had made it too tight it would have been frustrating too. The pattern cards are challenging. My kids also just like to stack and play with the blocks without making patterns.
