We're always on the lookout for unique games and from the moment we first saw On the Dot, we knew it hit the spot. We love the interplay of the overlapping transparent squares as well as how it makes your brain work to solve the patterns. We also like how you can play at your own pace – either as a great solitaire brainteaser or competitive visual challenge. No matter how you play, you'll sharpen hand-eye coordination as well as problem solving skills. Strategy tip: Try to figure out how to hide the dots you don't need.
You can roughly divide games into two camps, those of chance and those of skill. Personality determines your preference, but to get the most bang for your buck you want a game of skill. Such games not only encourage family bonding but also develop proficiencies that cross over into other academic pursuits. On the Dot is a brain-teasing game of spatial reasoning and visual perception. Duplicate one of the sixty-four challenge cards by overlapping your four spotted transparent squares. You will find yourself flipping, rotating, and hiding any unnecessary dots in your race to be the first to match and claim the card. The first to claim five cards wins. Or, if your family, like ours, varies widely in this skill, level the playing field by customizing the goals for each player.
As there is a solitaire option, On the Dot can double as a logic puzzle. Have your child set a timer and see how many cards he can solve in that time, then have him try to surpass that number in subsequent sessions. This is also a marvelous option for the younger child, or for a child who would benefit from additional game practice. No matter how On the Dot is played, it will improve spatial reasoning, visual discrimination, and hand-eye coordination. On the Dot is great fun as a game for one to four players ages ten and older, but as a puzzle it can be used with children as young as five, and if you are willing to adapt the game goals for these younger players, you just may find them to be formidable foes! The On the Dot game includes sixty-four cards, sixteen transparent squares, and the rules of play in English and Spanish.
