You know that the amount of reading your child does will have a direct and positive impact on his reading fluency, but finding appropriate material for the budding reader is often a hit-or-miss endeavor.

Some beginning readers are painfully dry with insipid illustrations, not what a child dubious about the rewards of reading should have to encounter. But Innovative Kids has pulled together a series with you and your child in mind.

Each set includes ten captivatingly-illustrated stories designed to tickle the funny bone of every child. Each zany story builds on the other as your child progresses from short-vowel and simple consonant sounds to long-vowel sounds and sight words. As your child completes each book, he receives a comical sticker to place on the inside cover; kids love that.

You get a parent's guide that offers helpful hints on how to use the books, including exceptional enrichment ideas to use at the completion of each book. What a fantastic way to further reinforce necessary reading skills and build reading success! Each of the following sets includes ten mini-books, a parent's guide, and forty stickers packaged in a nifty case for easy removal and storage.
  • Ten removable storybooks
  • Parent's guide
  • Forty incentive stickers
  • Enhancement activities at the end of each book
  • A magnetic closure

    Wonderful! January 2, 2013
    Reviewer: Stephanie
These books are excellent for skill-building. Each book introduces a new rule or sound, repeating it over and over with different words throughout the story to reinforce the rule. My daughter has caught on so quickly! And the incentive stickers are a great reward - she is so proud of herself each time she earns a sticker! I'll admit that some of the stories' plots are a little silly, or don't seem to resolve the conflict of the story by the end of the book, but it can be fun to talk with my daughter and make up our own endings to the stories. I would definitely recommend these though, as they are a valuable tool in teaching a child to read.

Great skill builder! May 6, 2012

Years ago we purchased the entire Nora Gaydos reading series. I love them. My kids love them. I have used her books to teach 3 of our children how to read. It was painless! She recommends reading each book 4 times before you move on, we read them 5 times. I especially love her questions on each book which we use for comprehension but we call it "question time!"

Great skill buiders! February 2, 2012
Reviewer: Christina Smith from Parker, KS United States
This book series is great for skill building.  These are very focused and organized along with cute illustrations.  They build upon each other very well.  Each sentence builds upon the last.  The stickers are a great motivation!  It's wonderful to not have to have another sticker chart on the wall for reading.  The stickers go inside the book. This is not great for re-sale though. I will say that the covers for the book packs are not very strong. I suggest to get your moneys worth out of them within your own family or hand them down. Also, I will caution that these are sold with the 1st grade complete curriculum and are the only books included. You will have to supplement with other readers and reading resources.  I also feel that although they are great skill developers they don't develop reading stamina.  They are very short stories.  They also don't develop vocabulary and you will need to supplement in that area as well.  For the price they are a great resource.

On the Go readers, level 3 October 24, 2011
Reviewer: Rhoda Miller from Portland, OR
My 5-year old son has really enjoyed all the "Now I'm Reading!" series books.  He especially likes to place the coordinating sticker in the book after each time he reads it.  However, in this version of this level, we noticed an anomaly in the stickers to the book number 3 (A Bass Mess). They pictured characters not at all relevant to the story. In fact, we couldn't figure out to which story the strange stickers belonged, and the proper stickers were nowhere to be found. I figured the series chose to swap out a book for a different one, but forgot to change the stickers.  In any case, it caused a lot of consternation for my perfectionistic child, and he was only satisfied when we agreed to black out all those stickers with permanent marker, and use the blacked circles as rewards instead! Kids can be funny! Anyway, I thought moms would want to know about this odd situation and be prepared in advance.

Favorite Early Reader Series September 20, 2011
Reviewer: Celena J. from United States
The 10 books in the "On the Go" set are considered to be for early level 3 readers & are true to that reading level.  The books are small and great for on the go reading, esp. if you keep them in the carrying case.  Some of our favorites are A Bass Mess, Thick Slush, and Slow the Boat. Each is 12 pages of full-color pictures with animals as main characters.  I definitely recommend them for any early reader!
