Little Ones Love Animals
Young children love animals, and Baby Signing, My First Animal Signs is full of animals delightfully drawn! This absolutely gorgeous board book depicts ASL signs for forty-eight animals, illustrated clearly with bright, cheerful drawings of babies and toddlers, along with a variety of domestic, wild, and exotic animals.

ASL Advocates for Babies
We have been advocates of American Sign Language ever since we saw firsthand the benefits of teaching sign language to a baby. Babies that can communicate their needs tend to be less frustrated, speak earlier, have a wider vocabulary, and often go on to have a higher than average literacy level.

Babies as Young as Seven Months Can Sign!
ASL opens up a world of communication for pre-verbal infants, toddlers, and children with special needs. Because babies are able to coordinate and control their hand muscles much earlier than their speech muscles, ASL allows babies as young as seven months to communicate and get a head start in social and intellectual development. Teaching your baby American Sign Language also strengthens the bond between baby and parent.

Lots of Baby Appeal
Over the past fifteen years we have sampled and sold a variety of ASL materials, most aimed at an older child or parent. While they are good and serve their purpose well, they miss the mark as far as appealing to babies and toddlers. So we were more than delighted to stumble upon Baby Signing, My First Animal Signs, with lots of cheery pictures of babies and toddlers demonstrating clear ASL signs. Alongside every illustration is a simple note explaining how each sign should be performed.

Engaging Illustrations
The adorable illustrations in My First Animal Signs accomplish the first step of signing, that of making a connection between the sign and what it means. And because the illustrations are so engaging, babies and toddlers will want to 'read' the book over and over again, accomplishing the second step towards learning ASL, that of repetition. Charming, clear, and affordable, this is a beautifully-crafted book that is a must for any new parent and is sure to become a family favorite.

Baby Signing, My First Animal Signs June 1, 2012

We have really enjoyed reading through Baby Signing, My First Animal Signs. One thing I've learned about small children is that if you add a tactile element to a normally "sit still and be quiet" activity, it lasts longer and is better received. Even the older children enjoy jumping in and signing. This is definitely a favorite in our household.

My First Animal Signs Review by Sam's Noggin January 9, 2012
Reviewer: Sam from Timberdoodle's Blogger Review Team
This is a large board book filled with delightful drawings of little children and directions to sign each animal. I used this book with our three year old, Leah.

Leah was genuinely delighted while looking through the pages. The little children were very drawing for her.

We worked through the book, and then I signed a few that we had covered, to see if she could recall any of them. She did, I think she could learn them all if we sat with this book a few times each week. Going through the book was fun for her, and not a chore in any way.

Seeing the little children signing was a real encouragement for Leah.

As a mom, I also appreciated seeing different children with different ethnicities. The child with the hearing aid is an easy way to help a child understand why signing is important.

The back of the book has a visual explanation of the hand gestures that are the base of the signs contained in the book. There are 48 delightful signs about animals in this title, ranging from your family pet, to the exotic.

I would recommend this colorful and charming book to anyone with a toddler in their home. Our older children also enjoyed looking through it, and it is delightful for adults as well. My First Animal Signs makes me smile, and the current price of $6.75 is another bonus!

Excellent Start in ASL October 12, 2010

We have used ASL as our foreign language for many years.  Then we started teaching our babies to sign, too.  This book is excellent to sit and read to babies, toddlers and young children, stopping to practice the sign together.  The back cover of the book shows an illustration of each of the basic hand shapes used in the book and the hand shape’s name.  Throughout the book it has a sweetly illustrated picture of a child signing each animal name.  Under the animal name it gives a description of how to sign the animal name.  Many of the signs include a helpful description of what the sign represents, which is especially helpful in remembering the sign.  Excellent book!

    Awesome October 12, 2010
Reviewer: Misty Marr from Buckeye, AZ United States
I was surprised to see how big this book was.  It is so nice.  My kids can't wait to learn all the animals.  All of the signs are demonstrated my cute young children, and each animal is a very realistic looking stuffed animal. It is definitely appealing   to the toddler! Each sign also includes a brief, but clearly written description of how to do the sign.  This should have all your little ones favorite animals and bugs, plus some.
