"The theologian is for the educated few; the preacher is for one
generation; the hymn writer speaks an imperishable language."

This provocative quote provides you with the essence of the Mr.Pipes series. Mr. Pipes, an elderly man, takes it upon himself not only to instruct two young teens on the origins of many hymns but also to nurture them in their newfound faith. It is exciting to watch these teens mature spiritually as they eagerly learn more about their Savior by studying both their Bible and great hymns of faith.

With accurate recounting, Mr. Pipes makes both the hymn writers and the hymns come alive. Better still are the theological morsels sprinkled throughout the books, tidbits designed to address the teens' behaviors and beliefs. What a great way to challenge your child to ask himself: what music is worshipful, and what music is written for man's glorification? If you have an aspiring musician or songwriter, this series of books would make a lovely gift. Books of this caliber are a rare find for this age group.

Mr. Pipes are excellent books! March 22, 2010
Reviewer: K from NC United States
My children have read and re-read these books too many times to count!  We also have read these in the evenings for family read-aloud time.  We love the Mr. Pipes books!!  The only problem we have is that Douglas Bond didn't write more!!  The kids read them again every year.  They are interesting and captivating.  We do thank Mr. Bond for writing them!

Two books in one didnt work October 20, 2008
Reviewer: Debbie Brown from Upper Deerfield, NJ United States
We love historical fiction. We bought the whole series because write ups made them sound so good.  We didnt even finish the first book. These may be more suited towards boys. It seemed like two books in one to my daughter and I.  My daughter was completely captivated by the beginning of the story until  one of the characters would have time to kill and start reminiscing about a hymn writer. It was very unnatural. This went on several times before my daughter had enough. I was still interested in the lives of the hymn writers but I didnt want to sift through all the story line to get them. So I too wrote the book off.  It was shame because this author really uses  some discriptive writing.
