Concrete, Hands On Math
For 30 years, the Miquon Math Materials have offered children a friendly invitation to the world of mathematics. Based on the belief that mathematical insight grows out of observation, investigation, and the discovery of patterns, the six workbooks of the Miquon Math Materials lead children through an exploration of mathematical relationships. Concrete models (Especially Cuisenaire Rods) are not supplements to the written work but instead are the basis of it and are used continuously.

Fast Paced Without Tedious Drill
Miquon Math introduces all four arithmetic operations and work with fractions in the first year. By the third year, students are graphing algebraic equations. Miquon Math gives children the basic tools early so that they can be independent problem solvers from the first day of school. Experiences in building models for concepts precede and prepare children for all written work.

The Perfect Cuisenaire Rods Curriculum
Cuisenaire Rods support materials (available separately) can be great supplements but do not provide a complete year's curriculum. If you have seen the benefits of Cuisenaire Rods as a visual/manipulative aid and would like them to be naturally incorporated into a comprehensive math program, this is the curriculum for you.

Written For First-Third Grade, Now Considered Sixth Grade
Cuisenaire Rods are the basis of and are used throughout Miquon Math. Originally utilized in the 1960's for first through third grades, however because of the dumbing down of most texts and national tests, in many ways Miquon covers what are now considered 5th and 6th grade topics. Miquon remains one of our favorites for teaching elementary math because of price, scope and sequence, and most importantly, the skills taught.

Do You Need The Manual?
Please note that the Miquon books do not include instructions or answers. The Miquon Lab Sheet Annotations explains the objectives of all the workbooks. If your are fairly capable at using Cuisenaire Rods you can do without it, though you will have to skip a few workbook pages where the procedures can't be intuited. However, so many moms have found themselves putting in a rush order for this book, that we hesitate to say you will not need it.

My 1st grade son loved doing math with his book. I liked how the book was easy to follow and kept increasing the challenge!

Great for Accelerated Learners, Too! November 15, 2010
Reviewer: Kirsten Kilcup from Tacoma, WA United States
My five year old recently completed the first book in this series, the Orange Book.  I hesitated to buy this, as I thought it would be difficult for non-math-minded me to use.  But after trying another curriculum that was supposed to be non-repetitive, I got this because my gut told me my son would love it.  Easy to implement for me (with the Lab Annotations book), my son has LOVED this.  He does several pages a day simply because he wants to.  The use of the Cuisenaire rods is superb.  While there is not a lot of repetition on each page, there is enough AND concepts get reviewed and repeated throughout the book even while new problems are being introduced.  My son picks things up quickly, so math facts have not been an issue, but if they were, I feel that is an easy problem to resolve.  I wish I had learned math this way--I have no doubt my math would be better for it!

Simple but Thorough October 26, 2010
Reviewer: Sarah E. from Oklahoma, USA
We enjoyed our use of Miquon math.  The pages are simple and uncluttered and not overwhelming, which was a good thing for my short-attention-span son.  Yet I was impressed by the amount he learned.  It went beyond what I expected but did so in a very smooth, simple way.  We have since switched to a different curriculum for unrelated reasons, but I often think about going back to Miquon and I probably will at some point.

...Kids that start with Miquon ENJOY Math... September 29, 2009
Reviewer: Chris C. from Wilton, CA
Miquon Math is a staple in our home. Even if we use other curriculum we always come back to Miquon. It is fun and just makes the kids want to get involved with math. It is a fabulous, non-intimidating introduction to Math. Kids that start with Miquon ENJOY Math. 4 Stars only so you will realize that you need to pair it with Math drill work to really cement the math facts. But it is TOTALLY worth it!

My nieces and nephews would come over and ask to use this book! lol (It's really cool when public school kids want to do more homework.)
