Milestones in Science - Experiment Manual Sample Pages (PDF)

Significant Experiments and Discoveries
We do our older children a disservice when we instruct them in science apart from its historical significance. While we may disagree with a particular scientist's conclusion, we don't change history by pretending it never happened. If you have a child who dreads history because it is so reading intense, Milestones in Science will give him the history he needs in a format he'll love; an investigation of history in a tangible, hands-on format.

100 Experiments
After a brief account about each scientist and his times, your child can explore firsthand what he did and how he did it. He will conduct 100 experiments with the more-than 90 pieces included. Beyond the 100 experiments, this wide-ranging kit covers the accomplishments of over 40 additional scientists and civilizations.

Fascinating Historical Information
In addition to instructions for the experiments, fascinating historical information is included in the 96-page manual. The nine chapters include: Light, Colors, and Sound; Heat, Steam, and Engines; Magnetism and Electricity; Communication and Microelectronics; Forces; Life; Atoms and Molecules; Stars and Planets; and the Periodic Table. For ages 10 and up.

In addition to instructions for the experiments, the 96-page full-color experiment book contains a wealth of interesting historical information, giving context to the scientists and their work. The book is beautifully designed to playfully resemble a scientist's lab journal from the past. This comprehensive kit covers the accomplishments of over 140 scientists and civilizations.

Nine chapters:
  • Light, Colors, and Sound
  • Heat, Steam, and Engines
  • Magnetism and Electricity
  • Communication and Microelectronics
  • Forces
  • Life
  • Atoms and Molecules
  • Stars and Planets
  • The Periodic Table

Lots of details and requires a steady hand August 3, 2011
Reviewer: Jennifer Schneider from Rhinelander, WI United States
I enjoyed the content of this and thought the ideas were great! EXCELLENT for older and more independent kids!  I would recommend for them doing a lesson a few times a week and it was nice for them to have something hands-on to help them comprehend science ideas better.    The quality of the materials however did not stand up to our YOUNGER ages.  Be sure to stick to the age recommendations of 10+ or otherwise help your younger children (who WILL find it interesting).

Reviewer: Rebecca K from Federal Way, WA United States
This is a fabulous way to integrate history and science.  The inventors come to life with actual experiments to cement knowledge of them.  As a tactile learner, i so wish science like this was available to ME as a child! Have a great time learning WITH your children with this winner of a science kit!

13 year old son went from bored to eager October 30, 2008
Reviewer: Victoria O. from Saylorsburg, PA
My 13 year old son was extremely bored with history but he loves experiments so when I saw The History of Science I bought it right away because it included 100 experiments.  Now he is getting the benefit of studying the history of inventors and recreating some of their experiments.  It's the only subject he can't wait to do everyday.  Thank you.
