Timberdoodle's review

F4U Corsair
The most capable carrier based fighter-bomber of World War II featured the largest engine available at the time: the 2,000 hp, 18-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial. It was the first US warplane to exceed 400 mph in level flight. The plane featured an unusual inverted gull wing to keep the undercarriage short while allowing the use of the large diameter propeller demanded by the powerful engine.

Metal Earth is a collection of intricately designed model building kits. Each kit consists of remarkably detailed laser etching cut onto one or more four-inch square sheets of thin metal. Simply snap out the eight to twelve pieces, bend the tabs to attach them together and create highly-detailed replicas of vehicles and architecture that fit in the palm of your hand. Striking to look at, especially when placed to catch the light, most Metal Earth models take less than an hour to assemble, and on average measure about three inches long when completed. All can be assembled without any glue, although tweezers or needle nose pliers to bend the tabs will save your child from sore fingers. Because of the tiny size of the components and the complexity of the models, Metal Earth models make ideal gifts for children ten years and older, teens, and even dads and moms!

for older child/adult April 7, 2015

I bought this for my Husband, who use to love building models. The plan was for him to "test" the product for me, to determine if this was a good Christmas gift for our nephews. First of all, let me say that he had a great time building this! It comes on a thin sheet of metal, which leads you to believe the model will be extremely flimsy, but once built it is actually pretty solid. Only dispute is that the description says "8-12 pieces" and there are definitely more (but I could have already told you that just by watching the video under the description!). We did not buy the tool kit, and instead chose to use a set of jewelry making pliers that we had previously purchased at a big chain craft store, and they worked just fine. He also tried using a regular sized needle nosed pliers. Though it did work, it was a little too large (and frustrating) for the small tabs. Determined it to be too mature for our younger nephews (8 & 10) but well worth the price!
