About the Graphic Science Series:

What an incredibly unique way to teach science! Start with an ultra-cool superhero scientist who can shrink to the size of an atom, or slip into a lab coat to travel through time, or even slip on a pair of sunglasses to obtain x-ray vision. Add engrossing graphics and short, reader-friendly sentences, and there you have it, the Max Axiom series of graphic novels.

Action-Packed
Max Axiom is your child's tour guide as he demonstrates and explains science in a thoroughly engaging and memorable way. These books are especially useful for children who find reading to be a drag or science a bore. Max Axiom's action-packed graphic narrative format makes science not only accessible but also attractive.

Scientific Terminology Explained
Each title is rich with detailed, accurate information, and scientific terminology is clearly defined and presented in a reader-friendly way. Some books also include well-done detailed diagrams to clarify the more difficult topics. Each vivid, full-color book focuses on a single theme presenting it in an interesting and understandable way. All thirty-two-page books include several pages with more facts, a glossary with kid-friendly definitions, a bibliography, and links to websites.

An Excellent Resource
Solid science and captivating graphic-novel illustrations make these books an excellent resource for your family's library. One caveat: These are published by a secular company, so occasional references to evolution may appear.

    Max Axiom set/15 October 16, 2013
    Reviewer: Becky M.
Everyone is happy about this purchase! We've all been learning scientific facts with more interest and excitement than any textbook we've seen has offered. We do put on our "fact-or-fiction ears" in case of encountering evolutionary ideas, but have found them to be brief and irrelevant anyways. These books are a great resource for unit studies or just enjoyable reading.

These are often missing from the shelf January 14, 2013

I have found these books a great addition to my 9 and 6 year old boys' science. The language is a bit advanced for them as the older one has autism and the younger is language delayed but the pictures hold their attention well. When I go to get a book from this series off the bookshelf it often isn't there as one of them has pulled it off to look at on his own. Sometimes in reading them I simplify so they can better understand. I know I have learned from these books as has my older daughter. I have even shared them with visiting friends whose children have asked science questions.

Max Axiom Science Books set October 25, 2011
Reviewer: Stacy Riley from Clinton, MS United States
The Max Axiom series is excellent! It is small enough to carry anywhere but is packed full of information, great story, facts and colorful  pictures.  It is perfect for all of those "Mom, how do _____?" questions.  There is a book with the answer for that question in this series.
The Max Axiom series has also opened opportunities to discuss God as the Creator of the universe and His love for mankind to give the ability to learn and investigate.  When we find a part that is against our belief we use it as a time of Bible study and investigation.
The Max Axiom series has presented many learning opportunities for our family.

Okay, but not the best use of the medium October 24, 2011
Reviewer: Dianna from East Texas, United States
My kids (9 and 12 years old) would give these Max Axiom books a lower rating than I did, I'm afraid. The books contain good information, but my kids and I found them rather boring. It's a fabulous idea, pairing a comic-strip scientist with good info, but the execution fell short, in our opinions.

Both girls commented that much of the content involved people talking with each other almost interview-style. There isn't much of a story, just a series of facts coming from the mouths of comic-strip characters. A plot, some humor, or even some mystery would have gone a long way to making these books better.

I was hoping these would be a sort of next step for kids who enjoy Magic School Bus-type books, but it didn't work out that way.

It's not that the books are too young or advanced for us, or too boy-ish, or too science-y. They were just dull.

Excellent books-Kids love them (so do we!) August 3, 2011
Reviewer: Shauna from CT United States
My kids just love these books! The information contained in them is more in-depth than you may think for a graphic book.  Real scientists were consulted and it shows.  It is presented in an engaging yet thorough format. I was not a fan of graphic books before this purchase so I am amazed at how much I have enjoyed these.  We are creationists so please note that on pgs 8,9,11&16 of the Earthquakes book there are small references to millions of years as well as the Volcanoes book on pgs 11,13&21and Magnetism pg 17.  The other 12 books had no mention of millions of years.  These references are small and easy to line through without disrupting the flow of the text and can be used as an opportunity to point out differences in understanding. I wouldn't let those minor mentions keep you from purchasing what truly are fun and informative books your kids are sure to enjoy!  You may even find yourself to be 'scientifically refreshed' as well!
