Math Analogies
Use Analogies to Teach Math
We use analogies all the time when teaching our children language arts and science, but maybe not as often as we should when teaching math. Children's brains often drift away when math becomes technical jargon and mechanical processes. One key method to making math click is to teach by using analogies.

Build Problem-Solving Skills
Math Analogies connects the unfamiliar concepts to the familiar. You can hammer away with hours of mathematical drill work, or you can use analogies and provide your child with a shortcut to understanding. Math Analogies allows you to introduce key terms or concepts in a new way. It can also give insight to the significance of numbers and teach analogical and mathematical reasoning.

Standards-Based Analogies
The analogies in this book are designed around the grade-appropriate standards identified by the National Council of Teaching Mathematics, which should reassure homeschooling parents. Better yet, they are fun to do, which should delight homeschool students!
Includes analogies for:
  • Numbers and operations
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Measurement
  • Data analysis and probability

Great for teaching abstract thought June 2, 2012
    Reviewer: Rhonda
I've used these with normal children as well as my autistic son and found that all the kids enjoyed them and showed improvement in their ability to apply the math concepts they'd learned in their regular curriculum as well as their overall abstract thinking skills. It is easy to use as a transition between subjects since each worksheet takes 5-10 minutes at most. I'd strongly recommend this to other homeschoolers, especially those with special needs kiddos who may need a little extra help developing their abstract thinking abilities.
