Loving the Little Years: Motherhood in the Trenches
Read an excerpt from the book
Get this right and your homeschooling experience will bring you endless joy. Ignore this and you will not only question homeschooling but even why you ever had children.

A Refreshingly Honest Look
Loving the Little Years: Motherhood in the Trenches is a refreshingly honest look at parenting your newest family members. With the practical application of Scripture, Rachel Jankovic teaches moms how to see beyond merely manipulating their children's outward behavior, and instead zero in on their sin - the heart of misbehavior. And because this mother of five lively children ages five and under is painfully honest in her writing, expect to be reminded that we mothers are sinners too, and often the first person who needs to repent is Mommy.

Deal With Hearts Rather Than Just Conform Behavior
Bite-sized chapters that busy moms appreciate contain creative imagery for helping small children understand sin. Even your toddlers can begin to learn how to deal with their hearts rather than just conform their behaviors. Loving the Little Year’s ingenious use of family code words is a great way to prompt us all to do better.

In Need of a Savior
The key to parenting and homeschooling is intimately knowing each child, his gifts and his battlefields. As we study them we are reminded that these are not just noisy sanctifying instruments sent from God, but eternal souls in need of a Savior. Loving the Little Years nudges us into that direction.

Praise for Loving the Little Years:

"Loving the Little Years is a delightful book. That may seem a strange comment on a book that deals with life with such candor. It's all here: the fights in the back of the car, the dirty diapers, sinks full of dishes, runny noses, exhaustion—all the stuff of having five young children. It is a fresh and honest book, because it faces the problem of sin (both in kids and in parents). It is filled with profound insights into living wisely as a Christian parent. It has all the things I look for in a parenting book—the focus is nurture, not just control; the motivation and empowerment is grace and not efforts. This book will help any mom (or dad for that matter) with loving the little years."
- Tedd Tripp, pastor and author of Shepherding a Child's Heart

"Insightful, encouraging, honest, and practical and a great deal of fun to read. Rachel is a blessing to her husband and her little ones. Now she is also a blessing to me and mine. May this book bless you and yours as well."
- R.C. Sproul, Jr.

"Mothers of little people have one of the most challenging and important jobs on earth. But it is a humble job. Rachel Jankovic is a woman who lives out her story with humility, grace, and a houseful of humor. And with five exuberant children, ages five and under, you can be sure she knows what she is talking about."
- Nancy Wilson, author of Praise Her in the Gates

My favorite gift for moms of littles! November 21, 2012
Reviewer: Naturalmama
I purchased this and then bought a couple more for friends with little ones. I have 10 children and still enjoyed it so much, so it's not just for new moms. I found it to be very encouraging as far as maintaining our joy but also really loved the tips on training our little ones to love our heavenly Father. this is my new favorite gift for moms with littl ones. I will be purchasing again.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. The author does an amazing job of speaking right to the heart of stay at home moms with little ones. I'm a mother of 3 little girls ages 5,3 and 4 months and there have been many times I've pulled back to memory things I learned from this book. This book truly imparts how to find the joy in motherhood during the early years.

I have really been encouraged in my time with my little ones by reading this book. She writes so down to earth and yet humorous and it makes it such a delight to read. With 5 kids of my own (not under 5 years but 9!) I can really relate with so much and it has been an eye opener for the attitude of my own heart!

Required-reading for our older teens! October 24, 2011

I just finished Loving the Little Years and enjoyed it imensely!  It's chock-full of wisdom, grace and humor!  I no longer have any "little ones", (our youngest is 8), but I wish that I'd had this book when my children were small.  The chapters are very short, yet packed full of wonderful parenting nuggets that aren't necessarily just for moms.  Originally purchased for my oldest daughter's required reading list, I plan to have our sons read it, as well.

Excellent, easy to read, and for anyone! October 10, 2011

I bought this as a  seasoned mom with 4 kids because  I wanted to know if it would be a good gift for new moms. I was surprised by how short it was.  But I was thrilled with how good it was.

The short-ness is a blessing; the chapters are easy to read, great when you're busy or trying to find something encouraging while tiny tots toddle around.

The content challenged me, encouraged me and gave perspective.  The author was able to address a certain demographic winsomely, vulnerably and with a gospel focus.  Yet it was easy to extend it into a different context or situation because she kept bringing it around to her own heart, her own adult situation (older kids - or adults - just whine louder, or demand the car keys rather than the bottle).

I liked that it encouraged me to seek God in my present circumstances, whatever those might be, to depend on him and trust him in the midst of WHATEVER.  A perfect gift, yes, for me.  So I got several more for others.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
