Challenging Strategy Game
If your family is ready for a more challenging game than the standard fare, but don't want to want to waste your time or money on mindless twaddle; the Livingston Game may be for you. Set in Africa, in 1855; the setting is as immediately appealing as the challenge is:

The Scottish missionary, Dr. David Livingstone, has been researching African tribes and the flora and fauna of the area. As part of the Livingstone expedition, strategically set up tents in various regions, while collecting gemstones found along the Zambezi River bank. Gain the most victory points and the favor of Queen Victoria to win!

Practice Tent-Making Skills
While the context is that of a missionary, your task is one of resource management. Simply set out your tents in such a way as to earn the most points possible, earning points by initial tent placement or by having the most tents in a row. Earn money to buy those tents by collecting jewels while avoiding valueless stones. Alternatively, draw cards to earn points, money, or better your tent placement. Watch out though, a mine-collapse card lurks somewhere in the pile; threatening to force your hard-earned jewels out of your hand and back into the bag.

Both Chance and Strategy Shape This Game
You will love that there is enough chance in this game to give everyone a stab at winning; but not so much that strategy goes out the window. One element I hadn't seen before is that throughout game each player pays tribute (tax) to the queen without disclosing the amount they pay. You are free to pay as much or as little as you like, but the player with the least tribute in the box at the end of the game loses, regardless of their other points!

Top Quality Pieces For Years Of Game Play
The quality of the pieces is top-notch; making the game a pleasure to play. The cards are sturdy and the jewels are uniquely-shaped pieces of acrylic; much more fun to handle than the typical trading cards! Most of the other pieces are wooden, and the only pieces we had any trouble with were the treasure chests. They are made of such sturdy cardboard that we found some of the layers separated when we initially assembled the boxes. Thankfully once put together, we had no problems, and I'm sure they will last for many games!

Surprisingly Simple
While there are a lot of pieces in play in this game, and many different strategies to try; the game play itself is relatively simple. The Livingston Game is sure to provide hours of entertainment while working your children's brains - what a terrific combination!
