Timberdoodle's review

Living Sands
Living Sand is one of the most amazing modeling materials we have ever offered. It can be sculpted like clay, and yet it feels surprisingly soft and fluffy. Living Sand never dries out or hardens, and it is made from a unique, 100% organic, natural formula of ultra-fine pulverized seashell powder and the same moisturizing oils typically used in manufacturing cosmetics. Both non-toxic and gluten-free, it is also incredibly addictive to mold and shape. It is a bit like working with pizza dough, yet it remains dry to the touch. Squash it into solid, durable shapes, then collapse them with a gentle pressure. Living Sand is ideal for indoor sand play, as even if it is accidentally dropped on carpet it will easily vacuum up, and it completely dissolves in water. Lab-tested as anti-bacterial, Living Sand will last for years and is safe for children ages two and older.

We’ve seen it all. Bubber. Delta Sand. Moon Sand. Play-Doh. Homemade Clay.

But Living Sands is different. Feel it to know.

Unique and Fun April 25, 2014

This is a super fun molding compound. It is not sticky, doesn't dry out and is easy for little hands to manipulate. It is very soft to the touch, but gritty (not as gritty as beach sand). Both of my children (ages 7 & 8) enjoy playing with it. I give it four stars, instead of five because it is messy and it does not hold it's shape well enough to really build with it.

    Definitely different! December 20, 2013
    Reviewer: Sarah Nichols
When I first saw this, I assumed it would feel like regular sand mixed with baby oil, since that basically what the ingredients seemed to be. I went ahead and bought it anyway because I was curious to see what it was like.It is definitely different! I am so glad. It is very unique and when fluffed out it feels kind of like non-sticky cotton candy and when compressed and rolled it around it feels almost like cotton batting or something. It's difficult to describe, but that's probably because I have never felt anything quite like it before! It is incredibly satisfying to roll around in your hands. I wanted to compare it to Bubber but it is difficult to compare the two because they are so different. Really, the closest texture comparison I can make is to say that Bubber is reminiscent of moldable circus peanut material while Living Sands is more like cotton candy. My three year old and I love this (the one year old does, too, but I try to find something else to do with her while we play with this because she wants to eat it! I'm glad it's nontoxic! :-p). It is very easy for young kids to manipulate and, honestly, I find it a lot easier to get in and out of molds than Bubber is. When the package first arrived I was alarmed at how small the package inside the box was, but once we took it out it decompressed a little bit and I was satisfied to find that it fills a 9 x 13" pan pretty well. It has kept my three year old entertained enough that he plays with it by himself and stays occupied for quite awhile. This is great for sensory play and I would definitely recommend! My *one* qualm with this product is the price - I feel like $24.00 is just too much for what you get. I wish there were more sand included. I would be willing to go without the tools if it meant a lower price point - honestly, tools you find around the kitchen would be just as fun if not more fun than the few included with this set. I actually got this when Timberdoodle had a flash holiday sale and I paid $16.00, which I think was a great deal! It is a high quality product and I can understand paying a little more for it because of that, but I would want to see it more around the $20 mark. That being said, we love it, and I won't take a star off for the price. Maybe just keep an eye out for sales if your budget is a concern. ;-)Overall, if you have done the typical modeling compounds (play doh, bubber, moon dough, homemade doughs and flubbers and such, etc), get this! It is definitely an entirely new tactile experience, and we haven't been disappointed, although I would like to see a package of it available without the tools so I can add to our current stash.
