Telling time is one of the skills that reinforces how useful it is to learn number skills. Familiarize your children with the concept of telling time by using these distinctive Kumon step-by-step books. Kumon's slow, systematic approach helps children learn this difficult, but vital skill with minimal distress.

Using Kumon's step-by-step approach, this workbook introduces children to the concept of telling time by concentrating on the hours first, and then incrementally introducing children to half- and quarter-hours. Learning to tell time this way will also help children improve their general understanding of numbers.

About Kumon:
Over 20 years ago, when our family began this delightful home school adventure, workbooks for toddlers and preschoolers were hard to find. But that was just as well because the ones that were available were inane, insipid or intolerable. (Why would we choose to prohibit watching corrupting television, then turn around and use workbooks with those same characters depicted in them?)

Workbooks are not appropriate for all young children; many are simply not ready for the fine motor skills that are necessary. Let those children continue to learn at their God-ordained pace and in a way that encourages a love of learning. But when your children are ready to move to focused learning, reach for Kumon Workbooks. The captivating illustrations are child-friendly and the scope and sequence are just what educating parents have been looking for.

Kumon centers have been helping children master fundamental skills for over 50 years. Originating in Japan, they have excelled in their primary emphasis of math and reading instruction. With the exception of a page or two of nonsense, these are outstanding books, worthy of any child's time and effort. The skills taught are essential and appropriate, and their presentation can entice even the most hesitant learner. The assignments are short; each is slightly more challenging than the last so that your child progresses at a gradual, comfortable pace.

My 4 and 7 year old both love the Kumon workbooks! October 31, 2008
Reviewer: Amber E. from Dubuque, Iowa
I have two children, a 7 year old girl & a 4 year old boy.  They both love the Kumon workbooks.  I have to stop by 4 year from trying to finish an entire book in 1 evening.  He loves the cutting books best and especially loves receiving this certificate at the end.  The books for my 7 year old are very good too.  We have enjoyed the money series along with the crafts.  We enjoy going through the books together.  My 7 year old enjoys helping her younger brother complete books she has already completed.  The books also use a very nice paper and are bright and colorful.

Somewhat tedious October 30, 2008
Reviewer: Kimberly G. from Clinton Twp, MI
I have found the Kumon series of workbooks to be useful for all of my children who have used them.  The books dealing with fine motor skills are excellent; some of the pages can be done by young children with practically no assistance (such as in the cutting, tracing, and maze books), while others need a bit of direction from a sibling or parent (such as folding and crafts).  I have mixed feelings about some of the math skills workbooks:  The money workbooks are quite good and have some variety in the pages, but I think the time books are somewhat tedious and aren't as effective.  The number workbooks have some pages that involve a lot of writing which my children found boring and tiresome, but are still useful overall.

Really knew how to tell time after finishing. October 27, 2008
Reviewer: Danielle K. from Kuwait city, Kuwait
This is a great, colorful, child friendly way to teach your kids how to tell time (hour and half hour). My son liked doing the pages and really knew how to tell time after he'd finished. The only negative point is that they have to trace numbers that aren't written the same way our handwriting curriculum uses. Not a big enough problem though to keep me from ordering the second book!

We liked Kumon books so much we bought 5 more! October 24, 2008
Reviewer: Lara A. from Houston, TX
We began using the Kumon cutting and folding books about a year ago with our then 2 1/2 year old daughter who had never had a pair of scissors in her hand.  She loved the books, learned quickly how to cut on the wide lines, and enjoyed doing "school" with the others in our family.  We liked those books so much that we went on with the Jigsaw Puzzle book for her and now she is cutting and piecing together pieces to make great, colorful pictures, while also matching numbers.  Her sister, who is 5, absolutely loves the Easy Crafts book. She has a shoe box that she puts all her crafts into, and repeatedly gets out the things she has made and plays with them. We liked it so much that we bought 5 more to give to other little girls for their birthdays.  Our 5 year old also has enjoyed the Number Games book and Telling Time.  These books are a great way for preschoolers to improve their fine motor skills in a meaningful, fun way.
