Timberdoodle's review

Those who have loved the Pathway series have begged us to find more. While it is hard to beat the sincere wholesomeness of an Amish textbook, we trust that you will find Reading to Learn equally appealing.

While the Pathway series shows life from an Amish perspective, shunning electricity and cars, the Reading to Learn series is from a Conservative Mennonite viewpoint, so nonresistance and modest behavior are two of the many sterling qualities that shine forth. Although some families will insist on using this series as a reading program, I think that they are just as valuable as age-appropriate wholesome reading material.

Be forewarned: like Pathway, Reading to Learn seems to be more advanced than your typical government school readers, so you may need to ease your beginning readers into these books. Each hardback book contains short stories with a sprinkling of poetry. Enjoy!

Keeps my second grader interested January 14, 2013

This book is challenging enough without being overwhelming for my 2nd grader. We enjoy the stories and poems about the children from a slower time in life. I like that my kids can read about other children that lead a "normal" life with out electronics! :)

Excellent Christian Reader October 26, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from United States
Helping Hands is a fantastic Christian reader!  Each story is wholesome, interesting and reinforces values we are working on—in this book, serving others from a cheerful heart.   I like that each story has study words in bold print and a list of these words at the end of the book.  I use the words as a spelling and vocabulary review.  Another nice feature of the book is that there are nice poems throughout that reinforce the virtues presented in the stories.  It is a great way to familiarize young children with poetry.  I feel that the Reading to Learn series is a great value for the price.  The books are high quality and durable, but more importantly, the contents are God-glorifying and virtuous.  I highly recommend the whole set!

Helping Hands! October 18, 2010
Reviewer: Misty Marr from Buckeye, AZ United States
I love the theme of this reader!  My daughter is so thrilled with the stories, and so am I.  I have read them all and they teach such good character.  I had been working with my daughter on the topic of helping/serving others and the stories in this book reinforces that on her level. Every story teaches something good.  I use this book as fun reading, not as part of my school curriculum.  It has a nice hardcover.

Highly recommended! October 27, 2008

The Reading to Learn Readers are books that our family cherishes. We have used these not as  reading program, but simply as wholesome reading. My children are challenged by the text, yet seem to come away from these much more calm and focused on the way God calls us to live. The wording is perfect for the designated age. The stories always grip their attention and leave them thinking about the story long after it has been read. Highly recommended!
